Public Hoads. There has been a great deal said about the public roads in the county. In the first place we do not have the right men for overseers. Careful, hard-working men are the ones to be on the road. The; Board should do their duty. They should instruct overseers as to what they should do ; hire hands and work the road and give orders on the county for the money. The Board in Mangum township says no one can get pay for work on the road now. The law has not been changed yet, Mr. Board, for there are 84,000 in the county treas ury now for the roajds, and still we pay, and our township gets none of it. Why is this? "a Friend of the Public Xorth Carolina, will be in Durham in a few days to canvass lor subscri bers to the exchange. I This should be done at an early diy. We know that our ladies can! make a splendid ex hibit, one that will be creditable to themselves and $cure the plaudits of the thousands oT visitors that will look with admiration upon it, and we believe that tlley will go to work with determination as soon as the matter is presenteil to them officially and a committee aiix)in toil to super vise the arrangements.
