All seafaring and river men are most cordially in vited to atend. The repairs to the railroad trestle over the banks channel are now com plete and trains will now run through without the delay incident to chang ing engines. - There was a large congregation' at Captain Leavitt's gospel tent last night and much interest was manifested. Captain Leavitt will preach today at 3:30 p. m., and 8 p. m. The wholesale houses on the wharf have decided to close for the Saturday half day holiday. The stores will close: atl p. m., commencing next Saturday, and each Saturday until and including September 4th. Captain Dave pJnes, the popular en gineer on the ape Fear and Yadkin Valley railway, tells us that the crops along that road are. looking fine. He says the small grain crop is the finest he ever saw. Tobacco is also looking fine. ' In the bicycle races at Charlotte yes terday, Mr. Bellamy Harriss was run into by another racer and both were Violently thrown. Mr. Harriss' leg was I hurt and the other bicyclist was also linjured, but there was no serious dam age. A colored man by the name of John Hhone,' was yesterday before a com mission de lunatico inquirendo com posed of Justice R. H. Bunting, Justice J. M. McGowan, and Dr. J. C. Shepard, and was adjudged insane and ordered to the Eastern hospital at Goldsboro. At the regular meeting of Hanover Lodge, ko. 145, I. O. O. F., on Friday night a report was read by Past Grand Isaac Northrop representative to the grand lodge. The grand lodge elected Mr. Northrop grand herald. His report was so pleasing and satisfactory to the lodge his brothers extended their hear ty 'congratulations upon his election And complimented him with refresh ments, cosisting of ice cream and cake. The -chief of police of Richmond, Va.. notified Chief of Police John R. Melton, I of this city, a few days ago that he had reason to believe a prisoner in the racfcmond guard house was Simon Prince, -who Is wanted here for the murder of Walter Pemberton, colored, Sn Dross Neck, a low quarter in this .city, on the 27th of last March. He Informed Chief Melton that the man .was serving a sentence under the name of Sam Chappell, for disorderly con duct. Another Wilmington negro hap Pened to be in it he guard (house serving a sentence and he recognized Chappel as Simon Prince. Chief Melton wrote for a description of the man, and he has reveived a de scription that makes it cortarn that the man. In Richmond is Prince. A requi jsition will be made for him. DeRosset, and. Mr. William Calder returned last even ing from Goldsboro where they have been in attendance on the convention of the Episcopal diocese of "East Car olina. Dr. Carmichaertells us that the con vention has been a great success and that it has been one of the best ses sions ever held. H.. on, the 19th inst.. of Mrs. Carrie A. Nichols, sister of Mr. John C. Chase, for many years superintendent of the Clarendon Water Works Company, of this city. She was the clerk in the company's office from 1885 to 1889 and had here a large circle of acquaintances who will be pained to hear of her un, timely end at the age of 38. A daugh ter of the tender age of 3 years, a hus band, . and two brothers are left to mourn the death of a devoted mother, wife and sister. Change of Schedule. The Cape Fear and Yadkin Valley railway will change their schedule on next Sunday. The train will leave Wil mington at 12:15 p. m., Fayeteville at 3:45 p. m., and Greensboro at 7:45 p. m, and will arrive at Mt. Airy at 11 p. ml -Returning the train will leave Mt. Airy at 5:25 a. m., Greensboro aft 9 a-'m.f and Fayetteville at 1:15 p. m.. and arrive at Wilmington at 4:30 p. m. Big Excursion From South Carolina Swamp Fox Lodge, No. 53, K. of P.. of Marion; S. C., will run its annual excursion to Wilmington June 3rd, by way of the Atlantic Coast Line. They will take on passengers as far this way as Dillon and Fair Bluff. About 800 people will come and we understand that many business . men will come along wth the Knights.
