Weather Bureau Office, June 10, 8 p. m. The barometer continues low over the middle Atlantic coast, and over the Mis souri valley, and high over the eastern Ohio valley and thence southeast. The weather has been generally fair and warmer over all sections during the day, local showers and thunderstorms are re ported this evening along., the Atlantic coast from Florida northeast to New England. Showers are also reported along the Gulf coast, over Illinois, Iowa and Minnesota. Maximum temperature of 90 or above are reported from Alabama, Mis sissippi, Tennessee and Kansas, and above 80 south and west of the Ohio valley. Harlee, who is the nephew of the late General Harlee, of South Carolina, has accepted a position, as traveling salesman for the Rheinstein Dry Goods Company. He will travel through South Carolina with head quarters at Florence, S. C. He is now in the city as the guest of Mrs. Pigford on Grace street. Mr. G. V. Burb ridge, of Jacksonville, Kla., business manager for Professor Carraway, the famous mind reader and hypnotist, paid The Messenger a pleas ant call last evening. Mr. Burbridge Is one of the representative citizens of the Florida metropolis, and is one of the police commissioners of his city. He and his brother are managers of the Jacksonville opera house and are in terested in the Star theatre, New York, dnd opera houses in several other cities. He came to Wilmington, to make arrangement for the appearnce of Professor Caraway house next week. at our opera Charming and .Novel Entertainment To Night. Tbe "Kan Great Success Last Night Another Bis Ran Monday Night Com mittees Appointed by President Smith. According' to announcement, the Car olina Cycle Club, had Its "run" last night, and certainly it can be said it was an ; exceedingly enjoyable ' affair I and great success. The members met at Seventh and Market streets, at 8 p. m., sharp, and the roll call showed 40 members, including: some ladles, nrea- ent with their wheels. After a trip around the principle streets of the city they ran out to the first toll gate, then back to starting point and. disbanded. Because of the inclemency of the weather they decided not to run to the second toll gate as was intended. The president, Capt. J. C. Smith, on yesterday appointed the following for the members - of the - two committes created at - the meeting Wednesday night: ' . Roads and Ordinance Committee- Rev. Dr. Robert, . ' -The funeral of the lamented Captain Alrich Adrian took place yesterday af ternoon, and the great number of per sons who attended: attfested the Wigh esteem in wWich rdhe deceased was held. Among those In attendance were the following ' bodies: Genmania Dodge No. 4, K. of P., Wilmington Produce Exchange, and Howard Relief Steam Fire Engine Company m full uniform. The Initial services were at 5 p. m. at the residence on Orange street, be tween Second apd Third streets, the Rev. K. Boldit officiating. .The remains were then 'borne to iSt Paul'a Evan gelical Lutheran church where Mr. Boldt conducted solemn and impressive services in accordance with the rites of the Lutheran church. The ehiiirph was crowded, and a large concourse f oliowv ed the remain thence to Oakdale cem- lottery, where they were tald to rest. In the funeral cortege were representa tives of the Pytlhian lodges, Wlltn'Ing- ton Produce Exchange, and Howard Rtelfet Steam Fire Engine Company, with its Mlne and reel, draped In mourning, both, ot which are named J for ithe deceased. . The -remains were laid In the erave with Pythian honors, the impressive and heaultiful ritual of ;the order being conducted by Mr. C. W. Polvogt as prelate. The grave was heaped with "beautiful floral tributes. The follow ing were the pallbearers: "Honorary, Dr. W. The engine house of Howard Relief Steam Fire Engine Company, was'also draped In mourn ing and the flag was at 'half mast. Fire Last Night. An alarm was turned in form bax No., 49 last night about 10:25, on ac count of Are in a dwelling house on Fifth and' Castle streets owned and occupied by Mr. Henry Biddje. The cause of the fire was the turning oyer of a lamp. The piano was burned con siderably and a carpet .was nearly ruined. The total damage amounted to $150. The piano was Insured for $250 and the house furniture for $250 with Messrs: J. H. BoatwrigWt & Son. The firemen responded promptly as the apparatus of the Fifth Ward Hook and Ladder Camtianv. arrived so quickly the flames were -subdued by their skillful management in a few moments.. Bowman Carried to Ooldsboro. Sheriff B. F. Scott, of Goldsboro, came down yesterday for Fritz Bow man, the colored boy who was arrest ed in this city last Tuesday on a war rant charging him with assault and battery with a deadly weapon. The sheriff left with his prisoner last even ing at 7:15 o'clock. Bowman was not charged with mur der as at first reported. He is charged with shooting George Connor, a white boy, in the leg with a pistol. Sheriff Scott says the shooting occurred on the 2nd inst. and that the ball has not been extracted yet. Bowman confessed to the shooting. Deaths on Black River. Mrs. Eliza Oorbett, relict of the late C. B. Corbett, died at her residtenoe on Black river, near : Tvanhoe, Sampson county, on Tuesday, taie 1st Instant, at the advanced age of 91 years, less 27 days. She had "been! a widow for twen ty-six years, Iher husband having1 died In 1871. Four days later her oldest son, Mr, Thomas J. Oorbett, who lived to the same neighborhood, also died at the age of 64, leaving la wife and three children to mourn their, greafc loss. Mr. Corbett and his mother were members of the Baptist church and the remains of both were Interred at Wella chapel. In Justice Fowler's Court. Yesterday C. C. At the Young Men's Christian Association tonight, Rev. Dr. Hoge will lecture on "The History of the Bible," and will give some account of the writers, the collec ting of the different books, their won derful preservation down to the pres ent time, and many points of interest concerning "the Book of Books." Beach Notes, jur. ueorge Campbell hopes to be ready to have the formal opening of the Seashore hotel on the 16th inst. Everything in the hotel is in readiness, but some of the equipments for the kitchen failed to come in time to open on the 10th, A bran new United States flag was hoisted over the Seashore hotel yester day by Mr. W. H. Parker. Mr. Parker had the Honor also of throwing the first dirst for the foundations of the hotel. The flag is to be run up daily at sun rise and hauled down at sun-set. Mr. Campbell has converted the closed pavillion into a fine bathhouse with fifty commodious bathrooms 9 by 8 feet in size. There is also a large room for bath suits and another ' for storage. Mr. Campbell tells us that he is now ready to book guests and can give Wil mington people all the rooms they want. A rumor has been set afloat that all the rooms have been taken by Char lotte people. There will be plenty of room for everybody. -Messrs. uwen x j-iove & co., are equipping the hotel and grounds with fifty-six fluid vapor lamps of the most improve make. They expect to put in about five hundred of these fine lights on Wrightsville beach.' Mr. R. Hr Grant has a force of hands at work on the beach, extending the water pipe of the Ocean Beach Water Coinuany two hundred yards further down the beach, to a point near the Clarendon Yacht Club's house. Resolutions by the Produce Exchange A special meeting of ithe Wilmington Produce Exchange was called yester day alt 4 o'clock to take action respect ing the death of Mr. Alrloh Adrian, who has been a member for years. . (President Pearsall-announced with great regret the .dearhjof Mr, Adrian, and stated the object of the meeting. On motion, 'Messrs. M. J. Heyer, O. H, Robinson and Colonel W, Ii. Kenan were appointed a committee on resolu tions. They reported the following: Whereas, Mr. Alrich Adrian, for many years a prominent business man and an Influential citizen of Wilming ton, and a member of this exchange, has been removed by death, (Resolved, That the members of this exchange sympathizing with his family In the loss they !have sustained, do also recognize the loss of a publie spirited Citizen, who was always ready to con tribute to the full extent of his ability to the welfare, growth and prosperity , of his adopted county and city. Freight train No 28 conductor, Cap tain D. McNair, Engineer William Rob bins, bound for Wilmington, ove? the Carolina , Central railroad, broke loose two miles beyond Maxton Wednesday and one section , ran into the other, throwing two cars off the track.
