Mr. Drewery had been prominent in business and civic affairs for many years and was widely known in in surance circles. He was a 33rd degree Mason and was grand high priest of the Royal Arch Masons of North Car ol: ns. and grand commander of the srand commandery Knights Templar v l.)02. He was born at Drewery ville. John C. Tlrewerv. 1; .- lirnw - . 1 . . a.rC(l 50. and secretary of the North .oou them, railway officials stated to Carolina Grand Lodge of Masons for day that as soon as possible the erec tion of a $200,000 roundhouse on the Pomona yards would be begun, and to day Resident Engineer Small of Wash ington, D. C, is on the proposed site making a final survey for the location of the plant It was stated that the Southern rail way has already authorized the expen diture of this immense sum of money for a roundhouse to take care of the running repairs on the Atlanta and Yadkin, Winston-Salem and Goldsboro divisions, and the completion of the building will make Greensboro the ehief roundhouse center of the South ern railway, rivaling Spencer and several other big railway points. To day also a representative of a Balti more contracting firm was on the site looking it over preparatory to offer ing a b'.d on its construction. In railroad circles the beginning of v modern roundhouse at this point with a capacity of eighteen stalls, or pits, with a big cinder plant and averything necessary for the repairing or on occasion actually constructing a railroad engine or car is hailed with high anticipations. It will mean possi bly an increase of 25 per cent in the number of employes and a proportion ate increase, in the pay roll of the company in Greensboro. Included in the building arrange ments for the enormous roundhouse are plans for a mechanical coal chute and a turntable of 100 feet, dimen sions. The roundhouse will be built ust in front of the Pomona mill in the "Y" formed by the junction of the Wlnslon-Salem and Charlotte lines. New machinery and equipment will be installed and its efficiency will be maintained at the highest point. The capacity of the plant will be sufficient to accommodate under cover all the road equipment at this point, the new plans leaving only the turntable on he outside. Big Engines Coming. General Foreman II. B. Nabors stated this morning that orders from Mr. E. S. Copman were to the effect Guilford College opens football sea son at home today with Winston-Salem high school. This is the first year that Guilford has had a real varsity team in some time. Coach "Bob" Doak has been working his men into condition ; this fall, and a good season is antici pated. Realizing the short time he had to whip his men into shape, he has given them some stiff drills in blocking and tackling, frequently end ins the day's practice with a hard scrimmage. The Winston-Salem crowd is reputed to be in very good condition and a lively game is prom ised. Guilford plays her next game with Wake Forest next Saturday. The probrble line up for the "Red and Gray" during the first quarter will consist of: Fort, center; right guard, Babb; left guard, Westmore land; tackles. Smith and Winning ham; ends, Marlette and Kiser. At fullback, either Newlin or Hollowell will be chosen while the halfbacks will be selected from a group of four men. Jones, Jonas, Armstrong and Cameron." Semans will be used at quarterback. . ." . .. The' game will be called at '' ff; 30 and a goodly, number of 'enthusiasts .'will, be present to see the team in action for the first time. - .' . -. A fine of $2Q and the costs, in all over $27, imposed by Judge A. S. Wyllie in Municipal Court this morn ing on R. L. Ferguson, charged with operating an automobile while intoxi cated and with being drunk and dis orderly, was concrete evidence of the attitude of the court toward offenders in this description. , While Judge Wyllie did not com ment at any length on the action of the defendant, Ferguson, operating an automobile while under the influence of liquor, it was inferred that the policy of the court would be to impose the extreme penalty of the law for endangering the lives of people on the public highways by persons irre sponsible for this reason. A search of statutes revealed the fact that it was beyond the court's province to revoke the license of the defendant, but that this was a matter to be in vestigated and acted upon by the city commissioners. The court did not state whether a recommendation would be made by it to the city com missioners to have the defendant's license revoked. Gillie Roberts, Lillie Roberts and Sadie Dixon were found not guilty of charges of assault George Christian, an escaped convict, who was captured by officers Sunday, was given an extra term of thirty days for escaping.
