Staudacher. fifty years old. physi cian and druggist here, has been coutt mg Laura Kearney, twenty-three years old. a clerk in Herz's notion store. Miss Kearney says that his atte.itbns became so unwelcome that he was told to keep away fiom the house, and that notwithstanding tiVs hint he went there drunk on Thufsday night and flourished a revolver. . At hoon to-day Miss Kearney and three other women enterend a street car in front oi the store. The car had gone only a few blocks when Stau dacher drove up in his buggy, reques ted the driver to stop, and then asked Miss Kearney to take a seat with him. She declined, and the car went on. At Tenth street, seeing that Stau dacher was still following her, and being afraid to go home alone, she got out with one of her companions, in tendiag to take dinner with her. As they alighted, Staudacher drove up in his buggy, got out, drew his revolver and began Tiring atMiss Kearney. She ran into a store, pursued by Stau dacher. There he was overpowered and disarmed. The crowd got a rope and was tolking of lynching him, .when the p.olice came and took him away. Three shots were firep at Miss Kear ney.. .One of the bullets -struck a cor set steel and glanced off. The two other shots missd her, but one of them wounded Patric Martin, a tailar, in the left leg. , : Staudach'er is in jail. He refuses to say -anything about the shooting. He has resided here for twelve years. Hope for Preller's dcrer; Jtlttr- -St. Louis, June 18. The Republican to-night received information from Jefferson City , to the effect that on Monday morning the Supreme Court of Missouri will render an opinion affirming the judgment of the - St. Louis Crimnal Court in the case of Walter H. Lennox-Maxwell, and sen tencing him to be executed. The de cision will be accompanied by but one dissenting opinion. Maxwell, it will be remembered, is the English adven turer who murdered his travelling companion, Preller. in April. i88, at Uhe Southern Hotel, in this citv. packed his victim in a trunk, labelled the body, "So perish all traitors to the great cause," and then fled to Au stralia, whence he was brought by the St. Louis authorities. They were met at Fall River by a delegation and upon their arrival in Boston a procession was formed consisting of the First Regiment Injantry. the 2d G. A. R. r.d Post 15 G. A. Rr The boys in grey received an ovation throughout the en tire line of march. Crowds lined "the sidewalks. The procession as it passed through School street was reviewed by Major ! JiJNF."57TrR7" ' - Confederate Veterans Ilcctivcd by Grand Irmy Boya at Lynn. ' : Lynn, Mass., June 18. -Most of the shoe factories are dosed to-day and the city presents a holiday appear ance. Robert E. Lee Camp, No.'l, Confederate Veterans, with ladies and accompanied by John A. Andrew Post, G. A. R , of Boston, arrived here at 9.30 a.m., and were met at thedepoJtbyPost 5. G. A. R. and Company I of the Eighth Regiment M.V. M.,of this city. On arriving at the City . Hall the visitors were extended a cordial welcome by Mayor Hart, the Mayor and mem bers 6f the city government, in car riages, joined in the parade, and the line of march was taken up, headed by Col. A. G. Shepherd, of the Governor's staff. . The Manufacturers' Association of this city and the citizens generally had made extensive preparations for the reception of the visitors, and the City Hall and many other buildings were profusely decorated. During the march through some of the prin cipal streets the ex-Confederates were loudly applauded. After inspecting the new building of Post No. 5, which Is the finest G. A. R. building in the country, the march was taken up to the Common, where the banquet was served. rCity Solicitor John, W. Berry acted as toastmaster. Speech es were made by "Henry Cabot "Lodge and others, including re marks by members of some of the visiting posts. The visitors left for Nahant in carriages at 3.30, and from there by steamer to Boston. Gen. tfnlslt Sc:st to Jail. Hot Spiuncw, Ark., June 18. Just three weeks ago to-day Gen. W. P. Walsh was arrested and brought to this city, charged with criminal assault upon Mrs. Dyer. Since that time the trial has been in progress daily, and Was ended this evening. The evidence against the defendant was very strong, and the Court ren dered a decision remanding the prisoner without bail. Much excite ment prevails among-the friends of Gen. Walsh, many of whom are very indignant. Tabom Hanged. Raleigh. June 18. Shortly after 9 o'clock to-day Albert Tabom. colored, was publicly executed at Oxford, for burglarly and attempt to commit rape The execution was public and the scene was about two miles from town. A great number of people of both races witnessed the execution. Ta bom asserted his innocence. The drop was five feet andhis neck was broken ' The local military were on duty and kept good order. The Progress of Wales and family and a score of members of foreign royal families attended a private exhibition of the Wild West Show this morning. They all rode in the Deadwood coach, the Princess of Wales sitting on tho box, Col. Cody driving. Grand Duke Michael of Russia and Prince George of Wales rode horses belong ing to the company and made some good shots at breakneck speed. Sclh Green Tells lloxc to Fish. Buck" who for thirty years has been rector of Rock Creek Church Parish, was com ing through the cemetery connected with the church he was halted Cy ihe guard at Logan's tomb. He had some trouble in parsing the lioel and has ir.cc stated that he would like to have the guard removed. He holds that the presence of the soldiers is not only un necessary but inappropriate. Mrs. Logan, however, views the matter in a different - light, 'and says that if the guard is removed she will have the casket brought to her house, on Calu met place, there l remain uotil the Illinois Legislature has prepared the final resting place.
