In less than an hour after the paper hd ' left the office a dozen persons reported at this office with some of the desired numbers, and on through the day. The Greensboro "Five Cents Sav ings Bank has been doing a prosper ous business since its first day. There have been over 280 depositors during the six Gays tbe Bank has been in operation, and the daily deposits have averaged about $1200 since last Satur day, when the day's deposits amounted to upwards of $5000. Whije who has been takr ing the city censusihas just completed the 2nd ward, and the total number of souls in the 1st and 2nd wards is 1445. Of these 683 are colored and 807 white. There' are 460 school children both white and colored, 221 colored and , 239 white. Mr.. White has only been at work since last Tuesday and has taken about half the town. He ex pects to complete the work in about a Week more, which will be making; re markably good time He thinks; the aggregate population inside the cor poration will number about 3000. This by no means does the town justice as it is hardly half. Our corporation shoujd be extended. Since thexompletion of the C. F. & Y. V. One of the al- tractions of Danbury U the ."cascade. a natural catcract. about two miles distant from Danbury, where there is a fall ol the water in its bed over a precipice of about 70 feet. Piedmont Springs are aho in the neighborhood of Danbury .and some ol he wildest and most beautiful mountain scenery of North Carolina is in this Tmmedute vicinity. The rail road will run still nearer than it is at present, and in all probability this section will soon be one of the most popular watering places in the State. Several Greens boro' people are there at present. Police Makea Haul. Sunday evening, policemen Weath erly, Lyon, and Short having had sus picions for some time that there was gambling going on in the woods; near tne coal scnuie, thought it would Dej a good time to make a raid, knowing that Sunday evening was a favorite time for the operations of , these evil doers. Accordingly they proceeded to the rendezvous ol the gamblers which is near the rail road, about op posite the coal schute. and when within hearing of the spot where the gambling was going on they stopped, and peering through the bushes they discovered, a few feet ahead, a group of Ethiopian worthies intent on I a game of "7 up." . ' . ! Our 'cops" surveyed them for j a while and then advancing a few steps, one of the transgressors discovered or seven groupes of the darkies in diflierent spots, numbering about fifty in, all. The names ol 21 of these were secured. ' . Mayor's Court. t the Mayor's court yesterday evening the following cases were dis- pqsed of: Rufe Trotter, tor ussault on Susan Harris and Sarah Bitting, fined $8.60. Orlando Kirkman and L. A.
