Comes Slack Home. Lowell, Mass., Aug. 17. A year or two ago Misj Josie Rarrmd, an heiress to thousands, astonished-the public by marrying 'hergrand mother's coach man, Phillip ScuJIy. The marriage was kept quiet by the interested parties for a time, but when it leaked out Phillip and his fair young btide did not wait for an interview with the grandmother, but fled in a hurry to Providence. The husband did not find it easy to obtain employment in that city and their slender stock of money was rapidly diminishing when a removal was made to Pawtucket. They soon became tired of Pawtucket and after short stays in various places came to Lowell about a week ago. They had on their arrival two tiunks and 75 cents in cash. With this sum they secured lodgings at the Harris House. Binjr without money she was obliged to appeal to Secretary Smith, of the Overseers of the Poor, for a ticket home. The ticket was purchased for Mrs. Scully., who bade her husband a tearful adieu previous to taking the train for Lowell, The young wife is hopeful of doing better for herself and husband. Her last words to him hefore taking the train were that, she would endeavor to reconcile her relatives to their mar riage. ; Arizona Citizens Promptly . Act Gloue City, Ari., Aug. '17. Two men were snoi ana kinea ana two wounded last week by a party. cqnceal- ed in George .Newton's house at Pleasant Valley. Citizens learning ot the affair, assembled, burned his 1 house and partly destroyed his corrals. One of the wounded men is missing. Another who was "shot through the iungs, finally reached Rose's ranch, nine miles distant. The men shot wore in reach of a Mr. Blooms, who was left by a companion about a mile from Newton's ranch two weeks be fore and has not since been heard of. Newton has not been seen since the shooting. Jiolcnt Storm in Danville. Danville, Va., August .17. A vior lent storm has raged in this section since 6 o.clock; The lightning struck the belfry on the Exchange Warehouse and tore a part of it away. The bolt then passed alone the telephone wires tc the central office, and the wires were melted and several (persons in the room were severly shocked, but nobody seriouslv hurt. A ball of fire as larga as two fists fell in the office, and numerous sparks were scattered uTiout the floor. It seems almost a miracle that nobody was killed, - - Alleged to nave Husbands. Seven Waterbury, Conn.. August 17. Mrs. John McSheehy, ot Shelton, furnished bail before a justice do-day, and September will auswer to the charge of bigamy. The first ten miles will reach as far as Rustburg, the county seat of Campbell, and the work pushed with all vigr until tfie work if completed to Dur ham, its objective point. It is con sidered a work ot impojianCir to this city, and all of the productive coun try through which it is to pass. Hudalo ISiir Vrtr Sideshow. Omaha, Neb., Aug. 17. Buffalo Bill is to add another new. feature to his show at London. A letter was re ceived here to-day from Col. Cody say ing he was about to attach a typical American bar to the show and has sent to this city for Iohnnv Kane, a well-known barkeepor, to take charge of it. Kane is one of the best known ot all the familiar faces that have smiled attention on the thirsty gentry of this city for five years back. He left to-day. The letter which brought him hit commission also contained a schedule of Buffalo Bill's movements. Starting from London Sept. 1 he will move eastward to San Fran Francisco, pausing there so as to spread the trip over j eighteen months. .On leaving the English capital the show nrakeS a six month's stand in Paris, whence it goes to Vienna, Rome. Everything is now quiet and Senator Riddlcberger has rested quietly all day at home, under the care of Dr. Belew, of Edinburg. his father-in-law. The Tobacco Convention. .Morehead City, August 17. The tobacco convention met this morning and elected J. S. Carr. president, and v: A. The meeting is a success and much inter est is manifested. .Hissing- ffoman Found on a Sand Bar. Madison, Ind Aug. 17. The body of Mrs. Eliza McAllister of this city was found yesterday on a sand bar in the Missouri river near Providence, Mo. The remains were identified by Mrs. McAllister's son. Mrs. McAllis ter was a passenger on a Chicago & Alton train, December 27, 1886. and on that davve ry mysteriously disap- peared near Providence. Nothing was ever heard of the lady-untill yes terday.
