Detroit. Mich.. Aug. i8.-Sheriff Cha. Lynch, of Alpena, died this morning at the Detroit Sanitarium Irom a shot wound in the leg inflicted by the notorious -Blinky" Morgan . Sheriff Lynch was the officer who planned and carried out the scheme to.capture "Blinkey" Morgan and others alleged to be the raurderes ot CrterHulIlin, of.CIeveland. and thrtJvhq wire ebneeroed in the Cleveland tut robberies. For a time the injury was considered simply a flesh wound. Intelligence has just reaehed here about a murder at Scary station, eighteen miles below this city, on the Chesapeake and Ohio railway, yester day. As near as cm be ascertained the particulars are as follows : Two youg men, named Bill Jones and John Sheppard, respectively, worked at a sawmill at Scary. Thev fought about a girl and Sheppard was whipped. Taking the drubbing; very much to heart he went to the house f his father. Berry Sheppard, who resides in Teays's Valley, near by, and asked him what he must do. His father told him to go and kill Jones. Young Sheppard returned to Scary on Tues day, and. walking up behind Jones, struck him on the back of the head with a club, killing him instantly. He was arrested, and strong talk of lynch ing him is indulged in by the citizens. Berry Sheppard, the father, is a rough man and has served a term in the penitentiary. - Cleveland 11 ore to Uim Than Party. Detroit. Mich.. Aug. 18. Citizens irrespective of party, have been vrork ing for a popular invitation to Presi dent Cleveland to visit the city. Promi nent among the movers in the scheme was Ira Mel call, a leading Republican and a member of the gilt edge j, kid gloved Republican club. To-day a special meeting of the club was called, and it was decided that- in the interests of harra-ny Mr. Metcalf must be quieted. He was approached by a select committee and urged to with draw from the Cleveland Invitation Committee, and apprised of the fact that it was only a Democratic scheme Every inducement was held out to Mr.MetcaUtobeUkehimsel.lromthe Mr. Metcalf to betake himself from the inoffensively partisan movement, but he refused, and another special meet ing ista be held to-morrow to see what can be done about it. Aug. iS.-Officer Kamerer broKe in the door ot osn Juengling's house last night just in time to save Juengling's life. The officer heard the cry of murder at midnight, and looking to tht second, story window where the call caxnt saw the room apparently 'afire and a man struggling with a woman and barely avoiding the vicious stabs she was making with a knife. It was Juengling in 4 life and death fight with his mad wife. He had awakened to find her with a 'amp bending over the cradle of their child and baring its breast ready to thrust a knife into its heart. Leaping to her side he caught her wrist with one hand and snatched the baby away with the other. She jerked loose, threw the cradle into the street, touched the flame of her lamp to the windosr curtain, threw away the key of the door, and with a maniacal cream turned upoa her husband. With the officer's help she was secured and taken to jail to await trial for lunacy- Juengling and his wife had lived happily together nearly four years.
