Col ,ndrdw Jackson, nf West Point, who was an artillery officer in thelate war on the Soutiiern side, is her son and Mrs. Dr. John Lawrence is her daugliter. A son. Samuel, was killed at Chickamaujni. Mrs. Sarah JacksoQ was for nearlv four yeura the mistress of the White House. At about the beginninir of Gen. Jackson's second term as Presi dent his adopted son, Andrew Jack son, jr., married Miss Sarah York, of Philadelphia, a girl of accomplish ment, of good family and great beauty. Tiio adopted son, who was a, nephew of Mrs. Jackson, took hi3 young bride to tho White House. President -Jackson was then a widower, Mrs. Jackson, having died after hfs first election and before ho became President. Gen. "Jackson, during all his first term, was mourn-1 ing the loss of his wife, and tho poung wife of his adopted son com forted him ii his affliction and was a most devoted daughter. When he died he left a fine estate. hls was lost and the family were in straitened circumstances. Andrew Jackson, jr. died in 1867.
