The following are the proceedings
of th" last two days of the Colored
Institute which convened here re
cently: THURSDAY.
After devotional exercises Prof.
Ragsdale conducted the recitations
on mental arithmetic and geogra
phy, and gave a splendid and prac
tical talk on the necessity of moral
character in teachers.
AFTERNOON.
Prof. J. S. Brown conducted reci
tations on grammar, geography,
sound marKsof letters,spellmg, phy
ical geography and the history ot the
U.S.
NIGHT SESSION.
After devotional exercises Mrr.A.
A. Cotton rendered a most excellent
read in. Then came Miss uatcie
Brown! of Tarboro, tl echo of
vhose voice was as the sound ot the
mocking bird, and with gleaming
eyes she reached the glad hearts ot
her audience. Subject Maniacs.
Mr. W. Li. Wilson highly enter
tained the audience with a few m
tu,in.r remarks. Mr. F. R. Brew-
ington gave a fine lecture on the gen ealogy
of the human race. Rev. J.
II. Uouston, in a masterly way
spoke on the moral and intellectual
development of the racegene rally.
