Must the policeman as a masher, go t part i. The following address was deliv ered before Pickett Camp, C. V., Kicnmond, Va., by Capt. Charles T. Loebr, of that city. The subject of my story is that of one of our brilliant victories, the capture of Plymouth N. C. The town of Plymouth lies on the southern bank of the Roanoke river about eight miles trom the sound, an, waa at that time ami some years previous, used as a depot of supplies by the Federal Arm in North Carolina, and as such, whs a Tery imporUut ioint. Ii was garri soned by four regiments of infantry to-wit: The ICth Conn., lth N. i the 101st and 103d Fenu., th 24th N. Y. Independent Batterv. two companies of the Id Mass. Heavy Arf illery, part of the 12th N. Y. Cavalry, and a force of recruits (white and black), from the Old North State, all under under com mand of Brigadier General H. W. Wessels. Tkree well constructed forts, Gray, Williams, and Weasel, connected with redoubts and breast work, Hflbrded a strong protection for its defenders, added thereto the gunboats Miami, Southfield, Ceres, Whitehead, an J BoinbhHI, under command of Capt. VlCIJilTY OF PLYMOITH REACHED. It was ouly a lovely Sunday even ing, April 17th, 1804, wheu our command reached the vicinity of Plymouth. Our brigade (Kemper's) wis halted in the woods on the side of a road running parallel with the river a short distance from Fort Gray, which was in plain view. The Richmond Fayette Artillery was placed in position close to th river, wlj.ch waa lined with our skirmish ers. A party of the First Virginia Infantry, of which 1 was one, were sent to a farmhouse about midway between the opposing line, close to the river. Soon after we reached our position one of the enemy's boats passed us, not, however, with out being seriously injured by our shells and musketry, haying a number of her crew wounded and killed.
