Frank Scott, a colored driver of Raleigh, drove two deputy collectors out to New Light township, in Frank lin county, and while the men were gone the moonshiners held up the driver, looted the carriage and made the negro drive back to Raleigh and leave the raiders to walk. The "Lynchites," or Sanctified band, seem to have settled down at Southport. Lynch himself and three families are in one two-roomed cot tage. The rooms are small, but it is just the sort of promiscuous living to which it is charged this much-con demned sect has been accustomed. Mr. George Sigmon, of Catawba county, were informed, last week re fused an offer of $1,000 for 1,000 bush els of wheat. The State Superintendent of Public Instruction says that last February he was informed that in one county where one negro child was unable to read and write, two or three white children were ; unable to do so. He was asked what was the county, but declined to say. He said this was the cause of his writing the letter urging that ability to read and write be a prerequisite of citizenship. If so, he will go. It is prob able that he will go. Reflections of a Bachelor. An engaged girl may feel awfully sure of everything, but she doesn't eat many onions till after she gets mar ried. After a girl has once decided that she wont have a man if he asks her, she will never forgive him for not ask ing her. No man ever respected a girl much till he made her lose her temper. When a rich girl's hair looks like streaked molasses candy, it is said to be of the color of spun gold. Down at the bottom of every wo man's prayer is a reminder to the Lord that he knows she has to put up with so much from her husband. Hens had teeth till they took to eating gravel, so they could crow like roosters did. N. Y. Press. The True Remedy. W. m'. Repine, editor Tiskilwa, 111., "Chief," says: "We won't keep house without Dr. King's New Discovery for Consumption, coughs and colds. Ex perimented with many others, but nev er got the true remedy until we used Dr. King's New Discovery. No other remedy can take its place in our home as in it we have a certain and sure cure for coughs, colds, whooping cough, etc." It is idle to experiment with other remedies, even if they are urged on you as just as good as Dr. King's New Discovery. They are not as good, because this remedy has a record of cures and besides is guaran teed. It never fails to satisfy. Trial bottles free at C. E. Holton's drug store. personal and social. Judge "W.
