Alfred Moore Waddell to National Chairman Jones, reproduced in this paper from the Raleigh Post, rings like a bell. He states with admirable force and clear ness the argument against entering into a deal with . Butler. He is not willing to see his party ''enter the open market and bid against the re publican party for Mr. Butler and his followers." If Mr. Butler wants to undo his foul work, it is very easy for him to do so, but Col. Waddell is not willing to pay him for it, and he will never agree to accomplish the rescue of North Carolina by "offering a higher prico to the demagogues who betrayed her to return to their duty, than that offered by their present al lies to remain with them." He "will be no party to any such infamous transaction." He "would sooner make war upon such scoundrels than to yield to their demands. If we cannot win without such dishonorable meth ods, let defeat come. We have stood it heretofore, and can stand it again better than win by such means." The clarion voice of Col. Waddwell will pierce to every nook and corner of North Carolina; its music will be welcomed and responded to every where, and his ringing utterances will cause the trimmers and the traders to quake. Would to God that the other men of the State, of like ability, stand ing, character and approved devotion to North Carolina, 'her honor and her welfare, would speak out in like terms, instead of leaving the newspapers to bear all of the odium and detraction which has come to be the portion of those who stand out in this day for political consistency and integrity! Would to God the democratic hosts of North Carolina were permitted this year to follow the waving plume of a Waddell the sign and oriflamme of victory! Charlotte Observer. To Cure a Cold in One Day. In the Telegram today will be found a call by Captain R. Percy Gray for volunteers in this city and section. Railroads and other corporations have notified Jheir employees that all who wish to volunteer can do so with the assurance that they will get their places back as soon as they are dis charged. The Telegram has made a" similar offer its employees. Other branches of business-; in Greensboro,- will no doubt extend to their employees a like opportunity. Many people do not think the k hostilities will be of long duration and the" required number would, perhaps, be enlisted in a shoft time if every o'ie felt seeureMn the matter ofetnplQryment on their return. It is nothing more than a patriotic duty in employers to give them a chance any way, to go or not to go as they see fit. - Baseball Yesterday. At St. Louis St. Louis 4, Pitts burg 6.
