When the Centre Brick Warehouse arose out of the ashes of a wooden house in the year 1903 it marked the beginning of a new era in warehouse Jbuilding in the city. Before that time wood had been the prevalent material used, and fire after fire had swept the tobacco district. But after the Centre Brick had blazed the way, others fol lowed until Greenville now has several modern brick houses. Since its erection fourteen years ago the Centre Brick has been enlarged, and the personnel of its firm consider ably changed. It is now under the charge of J. F. Brinkley, W. L. Rice and D. S. Spain, who conduct the bu siness under the title of Brinkley, Rice, and Spain. These gentlemen are all actively en gaged in the business, thus insuring to their customers their active interest in the different branches of the busi ness. Mr. Brinkiey runs the sale, Mr. Rice does the auctioneering, and Mr. Spain has charge of the book end of the work, each man giving his entire time to his work.
