awhile longer. No town in Eastern Carolina can
boast of a more beautiful church building. It is
commodious and well appointed and contains all

CHRISTMAS.
The Daily News takes this occasion to extend
the greetings of the season to every patron and
friend, with the hope that this will be their hap
piest and best Christmas, also that the coming
year will be to them one of continued joy and that
prosperity to the fullest will be their portion.
None could wish more than this, and we do it in all
sincerity. While we have lived among the good
people of Greenville and Pitt county only for a
bout six months as a newspaper, we have learned
to admire and love both people and section, and
trust we have in a measure gained the confidence
of our constitutency. Hence we greet you on this
jovous Yuletide season with a glad heart.
How happy all of us should be that it is well with
us as it is. While the dark cloud of war hovers,
yet we as a nation have much indeed to be joyous
over. God has smiled upon us as He has no na
tion. We have plenty to keep the wolf away from
the door and have been permitted to do our "bit"
for those unfortunate across the sea less fortu
nate than we, and this we will continue to do. This
is Americanism, this is Christianity, this is the
way God would have us be, this is the true Christ-i
mas spirit.
In helping others we are helping ourselves.!
Where we place sunshine, sunshine comes to us!
in return. ' '
In this Christmas time let us not forget why we ;
celebrate, that it is the birth of one who went a-1
bout doing good and proclaimed "Peace on earth
good will to men." Remember we are celebrat-l
ing the birthday of the absent one, for He is not I
with us but gone before, to make intercession for
us. Lets celebrate as men not as heathens and
pagans. Lets make it a day of gladness not onej
of revelry and frivolity, in other words lets be!
men, true men. If we have anything to throw
away lets give it to those more needf ut the wid
ow and orphan for instance. Many a home will
lack a fiilled stocking tomorrow. What could be
a better deed than filling one. God crave His onl v i
begotten Son, surely we can do somthing. Lets j fl
make this Christmas our very brightest and best, j
not only for ourselves but others. ! Si
"The Christmas tide is here,
The time for holy cheer.
Not foolishness nor sin,
Should touch the homes of men.
But feelings high and true,
And service that is due
For saddened hearts a word of cheer,
To prove to them a friend is near."
