The Liberty is still leading in high prices and big
averages: With tobacco selling1 at present high
prices it takes both nerve and judgment to carry
each pile to its limit There are no cheap piles

James Bowman Lindsay. Scottish En

. Credit He Deserves.
Little k keiurd about James Bowman
Lindsay aad ach about wireless te
lecraphy, yet the career of the one and
the history of thj, other are insepara
ble, says the .Christian Science Moni
tor. Upwards of sixty years ago Bow
man Lindsay operated a system across
the River Tay, a distance of one and a
half miles, just above the bridge! fee;
constrmctiem of which ranks as onea
the ntost metable feats in engineering..
His efforts failed to attract attention
at the time,' however, because of his
Tetiring disposition, but the history of
electrical research records few names
More deserving of respect than his. He
was a pioneer In the application of
electricity for heating and lighting
purposes and bespoke a great, future
for it
Apropos of Bowman Lindsay, as he
was familiarly known, it Is interesting
te note that his energies were not
wholly directed to the advancement of
the Mechanical arts. He was a lin
guist and as snch started out to trans
late the Bible inte many different lan
guages. Seven years' labor was ex
pended on the task, and the work was
far from being finished when It had to
be abandoned. The Bible, in In com

Albert institute, Dundee, Scotland. It
