C„} DAILY DISPATCH' FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 26, 1932 Bank Will Go To Washington Very Soon Will Confer With Comptroller of Currency on Plan To Reopen First National; Prospects Represented As Being Encouraging for Success Following meetings held Wednesday and Thursday evenings, a committee representing stockholders of the First National Bank plans to go to Wash ington probably the early part of next week for a conference wtth the comp troller of the currency with a view to arranging Tor the reopening of the First National Bank of Henderson, which failed to open for business on January 2. It is understood the committee will have a tentative proposal to lay be fore the comptroller, but will also in quire of that official ns to just what regulations will have to be complied with to reopen the bank. The party to make the trip to Washington may include Colonel Henry Perry, who was president of the bank, S. T. Peace, one of the lartre stockholders, a di rector and former president until his business took him away from Hender son a few years ago; A. A. Bunn, at torney for the bank, and F. B. Ro bards. who was the cashier. The report on the condition of the bank at the time it failed was com pleted and forwarded in great detail last Saturday to the comptroller of the currency in Washington by R. G. Harrison, rsceiver of the bank. Time is being allowed for a thorough ex amination of the records In Washing ton before the local committee makes the trip there for conference. The date of the trip will depend upon the en gagement which cart be given it by the comptroller, and that is being ar ranged at this time, it is understood. Those familiar with the bank’s af fairs have expressed themselves as being greatly encouraged over the out look for its revival, and it Is believed now that there la a good chance for It to reopen aa soon as certain stip ulations that may be Imposed aree complied with. THOMAS lIIHELL DIES IN NEW BERN Brother of Mm. C. M. Coop er, Sr., Formerly Lived In Hendcnon When Young Man Thomas Jerkins s Mitchell, about 70 years old, brother of Mrs. C. M. Coop er, Sr., of Henderson, died earty to day In New Bern, where he had lived for many years. When a young man, Mr. Mitchell resided in Henderson. A message today to his slater here said he died shortly after midnight. Fun eral services are expected to be held In New Bern tomorrow, and Mrs. Cooper ana ner son, C. M. Cooper, Jr., are planning to attend the final rites. Mr. Mitchell is survive*, by four sons and several grandchildren, in addi tion to his sister. During his res dcnce in this city years ago he was a member of the firm of Cooper and Mitchell. The meet ing is one of a series now being held all over the state by the Negro farm ers. The theme for the meeting will be 'To Dve Better and Farm Bet ter.” One of the principal topics to come up for discussion will be the problems of marketing crops. The meeting is expected to be of In terest to all Negro residents of the rural sections of the county, who are invited to attend. A number of pro blems regarding home gardens will be discussed. FRIEND OF HOOVERS DIES IN GEORGIA Brunswick, Ga., Feb. 26 (AP) — Mr.?. Howard E. Coffin, wife of the capitalist, died at the home of her nephew. Arthur W Jones on Sea Is land today following a heart attack yesterday. Mr. and Mrs. Coffin were personal friends of Presidenrt and Mrs. Hoover and they expected Mrs. Hoover for a visit at their Sapelo Island estate to morrow.
