With the score tied one-all, the Lions went to pieces in the last half of the sixth frame to allow the Ki- Nvanis to score four runs before the side was finally retired. In tfus frame the Lions nine got some bad breaks that went against them, coup led with errors that made the inning look bad. Hight pitched for the I.ions, but was hit hard and often. His inqured hand played an Important part in his de feat. making It hard for him to con trol his pitches. The box score: Lions Ab R H F, Vick 3b 2 0 0 1 Dodd jr a 3 0 1 0 Loughlin 2b 3 0 0 0 F. Raleigh, July I.—A close contest f yr the emocratlc nomination for cua miss toner of labor is in prospect morrow between Major A. L. FletchtT whb was high man in the fust plt m&ry, and Clarence E. Mitchell was in second place. Both of the didates live in Raleigh. Because Fletcher led in the f lt ., primary, many observers here ai* dined to believe that he will b* to maintain his lead and win nomination, since it is agreed tn ]u '_ litical circles that a plurality of a r .y sort is of tremendous advantage in a second primary. Fletcher received 216 votes and Mitchell 74.820 in tht first primary, giving Fletcher a le i(i of only 1,396 votes. Within the p a .. few days, John Norton, who wat of the six candidates for the nonjin a tion in the first primary and received 44,349 votes, has announced that he would support Fletcher m the second primary, while B. Fritz Smith another one of the candidate W ho received 22,180 votes in the first pn mary, has also come out for Pletchei It is agreed, however, that theie .- no way of telling hoW those who v u t.> for Norton and Smith will vote in tt t primary tomorrow. On the other hand, friends of M lt . chell point out that he may ag„it. t spring a surprise, as he did m tb ; first primary, and walk away w.;>] the nomination. In the first pnm.iY it was generally agreed that the con test was between Fletcher and Ft. r Lawrence, and that Mitchell couid act do more than run third or fourth. Bu: Mitchell surprised almost every one tv running In second place. It i* atli pointed out that Lawrence, who •«. ceived 60,433 votes in the first pii mar, has been actively supporting Miuht.. in this second campaign, with tht result that Mitchell may be able overcome Fletcher's lead and enut: the nomine*.
