The cost of au diting- county school funds has been reduced almost $23,000 this past year | compared with the ocst in 1929. be- 1 fore the General Assembly decreed j that no school fund audits should bo > made without first securing the ap proval oi the Local Government Com- J n- salon, figures secured todav at the! office of the commission show. 'i ne cost of school tuml audits in | the various counties for the year end ing June 30. 1932. was 128.867, while) for the year ending June 30 1929, the cost of these audits to the counties t was $50,606. For the fiscal year eud- j ing June 30. 193*). the cost of these school fund audits was $38,604. a sav- 1 ing of $12,000 the first year after the new law went into effect. For the! year ending June 30. 1931. the cost I waa $38,847. The first law enacted by the iy29 ’ General Assembly upon the recom mendation of the then County Gov ernment Advisory Commission, pro- * vided that before any countv official or county agency. Including the Board of Education, could have any audit made, it must first have a written contract and have it approved by the, executive secretary of the County j Government Commission. The 19311 General Assembly amended the act j so that in addition to approving the contracts, the director of local gov ernment should also approve all bills , for payment for services rendered by , auditors. Raleigh, pro ' duced a crop of wheat this spring at j a cost of only 30 cents a bushel, j County Agent J. C. Anderson reports. ! Each Item of cost, including fer tilizer, seed, and planting and har vesting, was figured in the records kept on the crop. While the yield was low as compared with the state aver ! age, the low cost of production made j is a profitable crop and Mr. Stimpson i plans to increase his wheat acreage I this fall, Anderson said.
