H*f4 FINISH ELECTRIC RATES THIS WEEK (Continued from Page O"* ) * Power and Light Company and the Tidewater Power Company. The commission is nearer to an ag reement with the Southern Public Utilities than cither of the others, it Was intimated today. The first offer made by this company, with the pro vision leid to it that the old rates coaid be restored on 60 days notice if the revemue from the new rates prov ed to be insufficeitn. was rejected by (the commission, it is understood. The company then submitted another ot ferfer. embracing a much greater re duction in rates, and with a revised provision that these rates should re main in effect for nine months. If the ares not sufficient at that tim* under the lower rates, it asked permission to give 90 days notice mi a petition for higher rates. This as «urm the people of a minimum of one year under the lower rates. Because these rates embrace such a aubetantial reduction and assure the company* subscribers of at least a ~ r HENDERSON, (N. C .) DAILY DISPATCH MONDAY, NOVEMBER 14 198 S mission is very much inclined to ac cept the proposal, it was indicated. For. even if the company does ask to increase its rates at the end of a ■year's trial, it cannot actually make the increase until its case is heard by the Corporation Commission and ■permission to do so granted. The rate reduction proposed sub mitted by the Carolina Power and Light Company is not yet regarded as quite satisfactory, it was learned. But the members of the commission are inclined that the few remaining kinks in this proposal can be ironed out within a few days. The new rate order for this company will probably be issued by the end of this week. The order affecting the Tidewater Power Company is expected to be the last.
