World Record Leap
; John Tranum *”
[f you’re bored with things you
might attempt to wrest the laur
els from the brow of the young
Englishman, John Tranum, who
has just captured the world’s de
layed parachute jump record by
plunging earthward from a plane!
four miles high over Salisbury
Plains, for 17,500 feet before pul
ling the rip cord of his ’chute.
Previous record of 15,000 feet
was held by Bud Manning of the
United States.
Jelke Witness
i ? V *&» i
Following a flight from New Or
leans, La., by plane, Mrs. Ethel
Hartman, Birmingham, Ala., apart
ment house owner, is shown on the
witness stand in Newport, R. I.
court, as she testified on behalf
of Mrs. Eugenia Woodward Jelke
who is fighting a double-barreled
divorce action against Frazier
Jelke, New York broker. Mrs.
Hartman’s testimony was the most
sensational of the case.
