POWELL CALLS FOR
GRID CANDIDATES
Equipment To Be Issued
This Afternoon With
First Drill Friday
Realizing how gloomy his prospects
tor a good football team at Hender
son high school this year are, Coach
H. H. Powell has sounded a call for
hopefuls oin the opening day of school
They are to report to him this after
noon when they wi’.l be issued equip
ment and work will begin tomorrow
afternoon, losing no time possible in
getting the gridsters into shape.
One hopeful note has been sounded
in the Bulldog camp, that being the
certain return of Bill Scoggins, last
years brilliant quarter back. Scog
gins is a triple threat man, kicking,
passing or running with equal ease.
Two more heavy men, Colin Mac Nair,
an end, and Murat Kearney, a lines
man, are to report in the near future

to the high mentor, thus bolstering
up the prospects to some extent. Mac-
Nair worked consistently at end when
1 he was used Ist year and can be count
ed on to make a good man for the
post this year, it *s thought. He is
tall, rangy and a hard tockler, but
is not as heavy as Coach Powell likes
his ends. Kearney may be converted
into an tnd or placed in one of the
tackle posts, sending Teddy Scog
gins or Ed Beckham to one of the
flank positions. Who will be the cen
ter is a question that is bothering the
ccach. Lefty Ayscue worked at that
post some last year but he is to light
to hold it regularly.
It’s a long time before the first
kick-off to be picking a first team
