Raleigh, Sept. 20. —North Carolina will participate in the nationwide movement for more uniform motor yehiele and traffic laws and for I greater safety on the highways, and Governor J. C. B. Ehringhaus has « instructed Director L. S. Harris of the Motor Vehicle Bureau to attend the North American Conference of Motor Vehicle Administrators at which this movement will be discuss ed. This conference will be held in Chicago on September 29 and 30. Di rector Harris is a member of the tem porary board of directors selected to dcaw up a plan of organization, a constitution and by-laws. ■ The organization of this conference is being brought somewhat from nec essity, it is agreed, since the convic tion is rapidly growing that if the various states do not get together and work out their own motor vehicle and traffic problems on a cooperative basis that the Federal government will do it for them. There is a grow ing dissatisfaction in Washington as . a result of the bickerings between ' various states and several rather I sharp warnings have been sounded ' recently to the states that if they I could not handle their motor vehicle | and traffic law enforcement problems amicably, that it might be necessary for the government to handle them with Federal laws and take the whole matter out of the hands of the states. | The Federal government has been su . pervising the railroads for a long time I* and has plenty of authority to exer cise the same supervision over traffic on highways. But so far it has left these problems to the various states to handle. " ”—•* The time has come, how-vo* the various states must wh en and work out more uniform , plans for the regulation of ‘ ar U H*.'3 oles v especially those „ lGtor ve .inter-state traffic,” in said today. “That i s why American Conference v S ortil hide Administrators j^ otor Ve ganized on a nation-wide or cludc all the states in the r* t 0 in ' l-i believed thal l( all t he st !t make an effort to get toget„2 * a cooperate it will not be nece , ana the Federal government to o t ary fcr this field.” bte P into Dispatch WANT ADS Get Results WANTED: TWO MEN 'to'shvr'.* in expanses for weeks t,..
