Blum and R. G. Harri- j son Speak to Civic Club i on Farm Relations Two very interesting talks were ! heard by the Rotary club at its regu i lar weekly meeting Tuesday evening at 6:30 o’clock in the American Legion Hall. George B. Blum, vocation agricul ture teacher for Vance county, spoke, lo the group on ‘•(ho obligation of the : oity man to the rural man.” R. G. j Harrison executive vice president of I the First National Bank, followed j with “The rural man’s obligation to Ihe city man.” Both talks were most interesting I and clearly showed that the line of I! demarkation between the two is I j gradually fading as a result of rural I j electrification, R. F. D.. good roads I. and other modern features. The speak r ers told of the friendly attitude that I j now exists between the two, how the I frequent visits of the rural m‘an lo |j (he city has brought him in closer con- I! tact, with the city man, bringing on I better relations Both speakers agreed I that the rural and city man were each I dependant .upon the other. I The next, meeting of the club, scho- I duled for Nov. 6, has been postponed I in* order that the group may meet in I joint session with the American Le- I gion and the remaining civic club in I the city on Nov. 12 in celebration of I Armistice Day. I On November 15, the club will go to I Oxford for an inter-city meeting, this I j taking the place of their meeting for I j Nov. 13 it was stated by the score- I tary. COLORED FAIR IB || I Successful Fair Expected With Many Exhibits and Shows In Place (Reported to The Dispatch) II The Vance County Colored Fair, ifter suspension for the past two or more years, stepped off Tuesda; aft ernoon in fine order. The exhibit house was full of lovely produce and work of the surrounding community and bids fair ta tax the minds of the judges in selecting the prize exhibits. The earniva, shows and attractions art up-to-date with a snappy colored band and a colored free act of slack wire walking and a dog high diver. The wire walker is more at home as his nimble feet glide up and down their almost imaginery path than or indary walkers are on mother earth. The well trained dogs ascend a ladder cf about 50 feet, balances itself and springs off into a net safely and cleverly. The outlook is that a fair is being held this year from which will come much honor and credit to the com munity at large. The success of this fair is due to the efficient and untir ing work of Robert*. Hawkins, general manager. Friday is school da> for all school* children. That Dumas created the character D’Artagnan in “The Three Musketee ters.” That there isn’t such a thing as an automatic revolver. Stuart Stair of the Volunteer Rifle and Pistol Club, Knoxville, Tenn., has got me on this After it was I stated here Oct. 11 that automatic re volvers do no texist, he presented proof that there is a “Webley-Fos bery” automatic revolver, the only 3 one made, This type of arm is rath er scarce in this country, but is rath er widely used in Europe.” “The distinguishing characteristic of a pistol is that the chamber hold ing the cartridge is integral with the barrel. A revolver, on the other hand, has a separate barrel, and the cylinder has a number of chambers, the mechanism of the arm bringing them one at a time in line with the barrel.” Foreclosure Suits For Taxes Actions Instituted in the Month Os Second.
