COMPLIANCE WORK ABOUT COMPLETED 98 Percent of Conservation Program for 1937 Is Now Finished Cottage Station, Raleigh, Dec. 9. — ihe work of checking farmers’ com pliance" with the 1937 * agricultural conservation program is about 98 per cent completed, H. A. Patten, of State College, revealed today. Some counties have completed all their field work and are now prepar ing growers' applications for pay ment for submission to the State of fice at State College, he said. As fast as the, applications are checked at the State office, they will be authorized for payment. However, Patten said it may he some time yet before checks are mailed out. A few counties were delayed in their work because the aerial photo giaphs used in checking compliance were not completed as soon as in other counties. These counties expect to complete their checks in two to three weeks, Patten added. In checking compliance, county committees determine whether grow ers planted more than their allotted acreage of soil-depleting crops and whether they carried out the prescrib ed amount of soil-building practices for which payment is offered. It has' been found that with aerial protegraphs, the areas of farms and different fields can be determined more accurately and with less ex pense than can be done with ground measurements.
