State Textile Institute Plans Widened Daily Dispatch Bureau. In Ι·*» Sir Walter Hotel By HENRY AVERILL. Raleigh. May In.- As plans fur the state Textile Institute untold it be comes clear that the project is broad er in scope than was generally as sumed when the 1941 legislature en acted the bill setting up a commis sion to pick a site for the project. The commission is authorized t< select this site, and an appropriation ol $50,000 for construction of the in stitute and installation of machinery is authorized subject to guberna torial approval; but it now appeals that it will be much more than a $50,000 setup. In the first place it is thought cer tain that a site for the Institute will be donated without cost lo the state. At least eight different localities ; re in competition for the plant; which should insure that it will take a really handsome offer to land it. Charlutti . Gastonia. Concord, Shel by and other cities are known to be after the school- and there are oth ! ers equally anxious. When the location has been select ed, the next question will be con struction and equipment—and here again it is believed that there wili be little, il any. cost to the state. Probabilities are that the site se lected will already have a ready made plant building or buildings, which will leave i nly machinery and installation unaccounted for. Here I again, it is expected thjit manufac I Hirers and distributors of textile I equipment will be glad to give— I with the expectation that graduates of the Institute will be. figuratively, salesmen for their products. I So the state thinks it will get a ' lot for its $50,000. High School \ Finals W eek Ends Tonight I ( ! ' ■'<!
