Death of Dr. R. A. Patterson. The venerable and greatly beloved Dr. R. A. Patterson is nearing the sunset of iife. Gently, the shades are settling around his once active body. Loving hands are administering to the comforts of the unconscious hero in many battles for the right. The above was taken from the Lit tleton News Reporter last week. Dr. Patterson has since' died, the end coming Thursday night. We grieve at the death of this good man f riend of our father and ourself. He was one of nature's noblemen, an honest man, a gentleman of the old school, without guile, a Christian hero. Like the full ripened grain he was ready for the reaper. His life was well spent; he served his day and genera tion well and goes to his reward with the love and esteem of those who knew him. Dr. Robert Atkinson Patterson was in the 83rd year of his age. He was the oldest and one of the most highly esteemed physicians of Halifax coun ty, t ailing health compelled him to give up active practice some years ago. Quitting his home in the coun try he moved to Littleton, where he died. Dr. Patterson was a surgeon in the Confederate army and served with distinction in the Army of Northern Virginia. He was a nephew of the late Bishop Atkinson and the Rev. James Atkinson, and a brother of Capt. John Patterson, of Peters burg, Va. He leaves a wife, five daughters and three sons. One of these is John R. Patterson, sheriff of Halifax coun ty, and another is Roger A. Patter sou, formerly of Henderson, but now of Ashland, Wis. We have seen grass and weeds grow in strange places, but there is a sisrht at Young's wood yard the like of winch we have not seen before. It is a vermifuge weed six inches high, growing on top of an old iron safe. There is a slight indentation in the iron and here the seed germinated, took root and flou risheth . The weed grew voluntarily, but Jim Young says he thinks it must have been fer tilized with Henderson fertilizers, made by the North Carolina Cotton Oil Company. We don't know about that, but Manager Schroder does say that Henderson fertilizers will make things grow where they never grew before, and where they have always grown, with their use they'll grow the more.
