C, where they went to visit their daugh ter, Mrs. J. R. Tompkins. Mr. Har ris went down last week aud Mrs. Harris who had been there for some time, returned home with him. Mr. Jim Horton went back to Co lumbia, S. C .Saturday to report for duty on the Attlanta Coast Line. It will be recalled that he was badly in jured in a collision on the road some time ugo and after he was able to leave the hospital he came home to recujtorate. He is not entirely well yet but able to take hisengine again. A letter from Mr. Edgar T. Mahone requesting that the paper bechanged to his present address, informs us that he has leen transferred from Montazuma to La (5range,Ga.,iuthe service of the Atlanta, Birmingham & Atlantic Railroad Company pre sumably a promotion, which Mr. Mahone's Henderson friends will note with pleasure. Henry T. I'owell, town clerk, gives notice to persons who have not paid their pavement accounts to the town that said accounts have leen placed in the hands of the town tax col lector, and if not paid at once, they will le advertised in the next issue of the (Joli Lkak and the property sold on the first Monday in May, 1!0T, as authorized by law for the collection of other taxes due the town. At a fire in Richmond recenty Lieut. E. H. Harris was struck in the face with a nozzle and severely hurt, while several other firemen narrowly es caped being overcome by smoke and heat. Mr. Harris is a Henderson mnti and his friends will b glad to learn that his injuries were not more seri ous. Ho has been a member of the Richmond fire department for several years and is counted one of the best and most reliable men in the service. - . Worked Like a Charm. Mr P. X. Parker, State president of the I'nited Daughters of the Confederacy, will be hostess at the Jamestown Ex position, representing North Carolina, the 3th, 6th and 7th of June. Mrs. Par ker will be assisted by Mesdames T. J. Jarvis, of Greenville, W. H. Oreram, of Salisbury; I. Y. Fniaon, of Charlotte; J. I. Allison, of Concord; W. H. S. Extensive improvements are to be made in t hesystem a modern switch board nit in, lines rebuilt and cables erected the intention of the manage ment being to give Henderson as good a service as any system any where. General Manager Toeplenian says he thinks Henderson and the patrons of the Home Telephone Com pany are entitled to the best and he is determined they shall have it. They have just beruu business and are turning out a superior "article of corn meat from one of the best equip ped plants ol the kind m the State. They occupy the brick factory build ing adjoining the Lassiter block, three, stories, and have everything fitted up in the best manner for the busines-s with elevators, grain bius, fans, etc. There are four mills with a combined capacity of 800 bushels ot meal a day.
