An Absolutely Pure Article for Toilet and Other Purposes Made from the Famous Spanish or Mexican Soap Root, Which Takes the Place of Animal Fats and Alkali Mr. A. R. Ennis, sales manager for the Moore Brothers Company, soap manufacturers288 Greenwich street, New York City, spent a few days in town during the past week-in the in terest of his house. As a result of his work here Moore Brothers' goods will be used more extensively among our people than they have been hereto fore, he having sold good bills to some of our enterprising dealers W. W. Parker and others. Moore Brothers' soaps stand in a class by themselves. They are made from the famous Spanish or Mexican soap root, a vegetable pro duct which is largely used in its nat ural state by the natives of those countries as a substitute for soap. The crude root as it comes from the earth, with water, will raakean abun dance of rich, creamy, emolient lather, cleanses quickly, leaving the skin or fabric laundered soft, smooth and healthy. It is indeed a common sight, as the writer has witnessed himself bothjn Mexico and this coun try, to see the Indian squaw or Mex ican woman at the creek or river in their native country using a bigsoap root the same tis our laundresses would a bar of laundry soar, the garment washed, whether it be cot ton or flannel, always having that nice smooth feeling so much desired. Spanish soap root takes the place of alkali and animal fats and with the necessary constituents to give it body, and suitably perfumed, it has been put upon the market by this en terprising firm as an absolutely pure article without a peer. They manu facture soaps for all purposes toilet, (several different brands) medicated, white tar, facial, shaving, castile, laundry which are sold purely upon merit. Demonstration to be Made Here to Show the Merits of a Wonderful Fire-Resisting PaintFire Chiefs, Insurance Men and Others En thusiastic Over It Mr. T. A. Gould, president of the Gibraltar Paint and Roofing Com pany, Norfolk, Va., was here Tues day to secure an agent and arrange for a fire-resisting test of their paints to be made next week May 3rd and 4th. In Gibraltar Fire Proof paints a great discovery has been made, if in deed something new under the sun has not been given to the world. The claim for them is that they are fire proof. That is to say a house paint ed with Gibraltar paint will not burn, as numerous fire-resisting tests have demonstrated. A test was made in Baltimore and the Herald of that city said this: It was witnessed by a large number of city officials, among them being Chief Ilorton and District Chief Burkhardt,j)f the Fire Department, who said the paint, which is guaranteed to protect a build ing from fire, would 60 protect a build ing until the Department arrived, which is the greatest advantage in any fire. A large frame building made from pitch pine was erected, coated with the fire proof paints and surrounded by excelsior and kindling wood and thoroughly sat urated with coal oil. The interior, con taining tin same combustibles, was set fire and burned fiercely for about t wenty five minutes, during which time the house appeared to be undamaged in every way. Gibraltar paints have been manu factured for sixteen years, but only in colors about seven years, with factories in Towson, Md., and Cleve land, Ohio. The demand for these paints in the North and West has been so great that the South has had but scant opportunity to profit by their use. But it will be different hereafter. A strong company has been organized and a large plant es tablished at Norfolk to manufacture Gibraltar paints for the Southern trade. Mr. T. A. Gould is president of the company, and his long exper ience and past success in the businsss together with the superior merits of the article offered warrant the pre diction that the highest success will attend the Norfolk enterprise. The Watkins Hardware Company have secured the agency for the sale Gibraltar paints in this territory aud will hereafter be prepared to sup ply their customers, wholesale or re tail.
