It may be "news" to some persons to learn that "it takes money to run a newspaper" but such is a fact, nevertheless, whether their money helps to make the wheels go 'round or not. Misses Mamie and Lucy Harrison who have been here some time with their grand-mother, Mrs, Lucy C. Edwards, returned home to Wash ington City Saturday. Their father, Mr. Will Harrison, came for them. An exchange gives the following method of curing a wart: Put a drop of vinegar on the wart and then apply as much baking soda as the vinegar will absorb. Do this two or three times a day, keep it on ten minutes, and in a few days the wart will drop off and leave no mark but a tiny white spot. This is said to be an in fallible remedy and perfectly harm less. If you are troubled with warts try it and see for yourself what virtue there is in it. Let Them Show You. Green, as stated in these columns last week, seems to have confused him in the minds of many Henderson people with Mr. Sam T. Green, and we have been asked by several if it was "our" Mr. Green who was killed. The similarity of names and the fact that both men had lived in Henderson accounts for it. Mr. Sam Green was the letter known of the two he hav ing lived here much longer. They were not related. Mr. Sam Green lived in Henderson about nine years previous to being transferred to the Atlanta and Birmingham divis ion of the Seaboard residing now at Cedartown, Ga. It has been several years since Mr. Sidney Green was lo cated here as yard master, a position which he held about 18 months, and he had married since and was living in Raleigh at the time of his death. He has been living in Xew Haven, Connecticut, for several years, and the new relation upon which he is about to enter is additional evi dence of how he is getting along. The cards read as follows: Mr. and Mrs. William Henry MeCully request the honor of your presence at the marriage of their daughter, Augusta Phelps to Mr. John Bullock Watkins, Jr., on the afternoon of Wednesday, the ninth of September, nineteen hundred and eight, at five o'clock, at the Reformed Church Parsonage, Oradell, Xew Jersey. Olive Tribune nptlv says, when you hear a man sneering at the local paper because it is not as big, cheap and newsy as the city papers, you can safely bet he does not squander any of his wealth in assisting to make' it better and that generally the paper has done more for him than he has for it. The man who cannot see the benefits arising from a local paper is about as much value to a town as a delinouent tax list. Miss Jones, the bride-to-be, is one of Warrenton's fairest and loveliest young women, and is greatly ad mired for her charming personality and beautiful character. Mr Davis is a Northern man prominent in busi ness and social circles and is to be congratulated upon his good fort une m the conquest he has made. The accident recently sustained by Mr. Charlie Loughlin turns out to be not so bad as first reported. It was bin thigh and not his hip that was broken, the trouble being of a less serious nature, although hadenousrh as it was. Our account was that Mr. Loughlin fell from the trapeze while performing. To this the young ma it somewhat objects as tending to create the impression that he wa 1sh expert and proficient asan artist than his standing gives him among the profession. He did not fall from the trapeze while performing, and the accident was due to no clumsiness or carelessness on his part. After he had finished his act he was descending from the trapeze by. means of the webbing by which he had ascended climbimr overhand, when it broke and precipitated him to the ground. The accident was due to the assistant pulling too hard on the webbing causing it to break. At last ac counts Mr. Loughlin was getting along very well and hopes soon to be himself again. When any new invention or innovation in the elec trical world is put upon the market they are ready to give it a trial and adopt it if it is found to be an im provement upon what the3r already have. The latest and best thing to offer their customers is the Tungsten lamps, the greatest improvement that has yet been made in electric lighting, considering the cost. This lamp has all the brilliancy of acety lene gaswithout any of its dangers or disagreeable colored rays. It is a pune white soft light, not trying to the ees aud will show colors per fectly. Equals 00 candle power as against 10, the ordinary standard lamp equivalent practically to four 10 candle power lamps while the amount of electricity consumed is but little greater. The "initial cost of the new lump is more but its lasting quality is so much greater, to say nothing of the higher efficiency, that it is vastly cheaper in the end. The Tungsten lamp will last from 800 to 1,500 hours an average cf 1,000 hours, say as against 450 hours for the standard 10 candle power lamp. And it will retain the same clear white light to the md does not blacken and tret dull like th other lamps. f The Tungsten lamp is a (Snrinan product and it is only within com paratively recent thin- that it has been perfected and put upon th mar ket in this country. lint they are le ciMiiingmoregenerall v adopted wher ever introduced. The Henderson Liu lit and Power Company was amonii' the first to introduce them hereabouts. They are to be seen in sev eral places in town and others will follow. The postoffice is the latest place to adopt theni the beautiful lijrht so much commented on there beinr furnished by 0 of these lamps winch took the place of the same number of 10 candle power lamps, giv ing four times as much light with very little additional cost, to the consumer. We predict that as soon as per sons who use electric lights come to know about this wonderful new lamp Messrs. Bridgers and Wood worth will have their hands full sup plying the demand. . . BARBIES THIJ WEEK To &1Y Your Home Merchant First. An exchange has some iertineiit remarks on the evil aud unwisdom Of patronizing the big city depart ment stores in preference to one's home merchants. Too many people ; mak a practice of sending their ! money away when they want to buy anything, under the false notion that they can save or dain something by doing so. Farmers expect the home merchants to pay them a fancy price I for butter, esrirs and poultry, for Hheir pumpkins, potatoes, applesand tomatoes, and then they take tne money and send it to a cit- depart ment store. There is neither econo- mv nor honor in such a manner of doing business. You can write it down that as a rule you cannot do any better when you buy from the city department store than you can at home. And even if you can save a few dimes by doing so is it the part of wisdom or justice to treat your local dealers in this way? We think not, and if you count the cost in the end vou will come to agree with us. There is much of truth in the above. The home merchant should be given the preference because it is to your interest to trade at home. Patron ize those who patronize you should lie tne motto, ana you ougnt io ao what vou can to put the local mer chant in better position to meet your demands and serve your inter ests, bpeakinjr for Henderson, where we have the best of stores, the most houwable and accommodating of m ere li ants, and where goods are sold at a close margin of profit, thei-M i ibsdlutelv no excuse for sending one dollar in a thousand awav from me to the great city merchant lose interest in you extends no further than the dollar he gets out of you. There is not a business man in this town who will not duplicate their prices for the same quality of goods, and he who turns down his home merchant to patronize the mammoth catalogue houses is far from beingaloyal, patriotic, commu ity loving citizen.
