Well, here I am at the old stand ready for business. The health o * this section is .good as far as I know, with the exception of colds. News appears to be a little scarce in th s part of the county at present. There was a lots of moving this fall with the people. I guess they think they are bet tering themselves. O. D. Murray & Co., are doing a big business at Murraysville. They have a fine roller mill, one large store with glass front, and one plaining mill. They are dressing a lot of lumber and shipping it to Mrs. V. F. Shipp's fine hotel, Newton. Mr. D. L. Wike is hauling lumber to Mur ray's and having it dressed to build a nice dwelling soon. They sell qll kinds of farm goods. They have all the Christmas goods you are looking for. Murraysville is one more hustling little town. It is only 5 years old, they do more business in one day than Catawba does in six days. Peo ple go from Catawba to Murray's to trade because they can get what they want at right prices. Mr. A. S. Alley has sold his old home p'ace to Mr. Cain Bost. Mr. Bost will move in it soon. The Shutord Gold Company is running on full time. I guess they will make lots of gold now as they have a new boss from Philadelphia. Mr. Oscar Fry is teaching the Walden school this winter and is getting along finely with his scholars. Mr. Fry is the light man in the right place. He is a young man of business qualities, and a fine teacher. But let me tell you, you just ought to see what O. D. Murray and John have got for sale. They can suit you from head to foot. In brief, they have goods er.pugh to cover all the sing in the joining counties. A felkw went in Murray's store, the other day and asked if they had any Waldensan stockings a 9 he wanted to buy another pair. Said he had on a pair he had been wearing seven years and they were a little dirty and if he could buy a change he would have them washed he believed. Visitors: Mr. James Aberne-, thy and Miss Callie Jones, Mr. j Frank Abernethy and Miss Car-! rie Abernethy, all orTerrell; Mr.! James Miller and Mr. W. S. Al ley, of Catawba, were at the Springs Sunday evening. Never bear more than one kind of trouble at a time. Some people bear 3 all they have had, all they have now and all they expect to have. Luke Lightning's idea of a proper world; If I could make the world I would Not make a salty sea, I'd fill it up with lemonade And let in children free. On every mountain, cape and stream I'd print its name so we Would never have to study them In a geography. , Addition and division Would not i?ave made at all, I wouldn't have a thing hut games For children that are small. I guess if I made such a world It would be fine to see And all the children that there are Would say, Hurrah for me. Luke Lightning. Offer your real estate at a rea sonable price, then watch us grow. Roller organs, 6.00 to 20.00 Autoharps 3-00 to 5.00 Guitars, 2.50 to 15.00 Banjos, 1.50 to 1-0.00 Mandolins, 2.50 to 8.00 Violins, 1.25 to 10.00. Sunday night during relierious services in the chapel cf Lenoir College the j.iottwicltfd rad Jaw J down cowardi r act thac has ever 'been heard in Hkkory was performed by three -"young men" if we may term them such. In the midst of the ser mon one standing on the out-side threw a stone weighing about 1 1-2 lbs. into the window and just missing the minister's head passed entirely across the room struck the wall and rebounded and struck one of the girls of Oak View Home. They are on close track of the criminals and if caught will receive the full weight of the law. Any one pro ducing proof enough to con vice ■ them, they will be well awarded. Christmas at the Reformed Church. The usual services at six o'clock will be held Christmas morning. This is one of the most enjoyable services of the year. The attractive features of the programme this year in addi tion to the four anthems by the choir and hymns by the congre gation will be a vocal solo by Misses Shuford and Boyden, a vocal solo by Mrs. Dr." Shuford, a vocal duett by Mesdames Bost and Murphy, a mandolin duett by Miss Josephine S'gmoii and Mrs. Bert Hutton, and a violin solo by Dr. Shuford, and two crgm solos, one by Mrs. George Bisanar and one by Miss Rose Snuford.
