Catawba County Students Or ganize. j On the second of January at the residence of Mrs. E. B*. 1 Cline. the Catawba chapter of the former students' association of the State Normal and Indus trial College was organized. Mrs. E. B. Cline was elected president 1 and Miss Mamie Dixon secretary ] and treasurer. There were eight former students present and the meeting was a lively one. Bagby, the new pastor at ! the Methodist church preached a most excellent sermon at the Presbyterian church Sunday . night. The service was the be ginning of the week of prayer serxices that is being held at the 1 respective churches during this 1 week. Rev. Bagby is a good 3 speaker and preacher and is not only winning the hearts of his own church but the people of other churches as well. £ £ The Union prayer meeting with t&e different churches of the city is being largely attended i during this week and much in- 1 terest manifested. With this 1 musicians of unusu- ' al ability is Miss Estelle Van Horn whose dramatic rendering 1 of the best literature is highly praised by Prof. Southwick of- 1 the Emerson College of Oratory, 1 of Boston. Hickory's Fire Company has already purchased a handsome horse and the order has been ( giyen for an up-to-date wagon to be built. After a l.ttle training of the horse the company will be in good shape for fighting fire. ( The horse and wagon will be kept ready for a «call day or night at ( the city hall.
