School Question Settled.
We are glad to know that the '
school question has been settled '
by the action of the teachers in
accepting the trustee's liberal ]
proposition to pay them for sev- 1
®n months' service, that being
their salary for one monthi dur
ing which they will not teach.
The action of the Board of Al- 1
dermen and of the Trustees was
timely and entirely justified by
the circumstances, subsequent
events have shown that it would 1
have been very dangerous to j
have continued the school. No
greater facility for the spread of ,
the disease could have been af- j
forded by collecting two or three j
hundred children fronl all parts
of the town in the same build»g. j
A Hotel foi Hickory.
We regret to see that no active
steps have been taken to rebuild
the Inn or to supply Hickory ]
with any other hotel such as the J
size and importance of the town
demands. This is an enterprise
which is of great importance and
present necessity. > Nothing will
give a town a bad name abroad j
quicker than a lack of hotel fa-!
cilities. One of the staple topics j
of conversation among travelling!
| men is the subject of hotels. The
| chances are that you will not be
in. a "drummers'' society ten
minutes without hearing some
thing about a hotel. The con
clusion is natural that a town
that lacks a large up-to-date ho
tel, lacks enterprise. Our busi
ness men should take this mat
ter up at once.
