Dr. and Mrs. Marler, who have been visiting their daughter, Mrs. Dr. E. A. Russell, of Char lotte, are expected home soon. It is a poor excuse of an old hen, if "permitted to run loose in town, that cannot make at least one enemy out of a good neighbor. Dr. M. A. Bland, of Charlotte, up Monday to be with his father, Rev. Chas. T. Bland, who is very ill, and the end is ex pected any day. Mrs. F. W. Winters, of Pen ver, Colo., arrived in the city Saturday to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. Hutton. She expects to be here several weeks. Misses THinnie and Margaret Hallyburton, of Morganton, re turned home Tuesday after spending Easter with their sis ter, Mrs. J. W. Whitener. On last Saturday evening Mr. G. L. Herman, foreman of oui job office, left for Charlotte t( spend Sunday with his best girl, stating to us that he would re turn Monday ready for business. About 2:30 on that day we re ceived a telegram from Charlotte I reading thusly: Off cn bridal tour—back with biide in ten days. Signed, G. L. Herman. Though we confess we were to an extent April fooled, we are exceedingly glad to nqte that the young lady has thus far escaped; for he came back as he went, Mr. John Sherrill, of Cfatawba, was thrown from his-horse Wed nesday and his left shoulder dis located. Friday he was brought to the sanatorium and the injury treated. Saturday Mr. Sherrill was taken to the home of his brother, Mr. W. L. Sherrill, ea c t of town, and yesterday he re ' turned to his h'pme in Catawba, j The injury is painful and while Mr. Sherrill is able to go about he will be without the use of his left arm for some time.
