Gwaltney has gone to Goldsboro to attend the meet ing of the Women's Missionary Union, which was to have met in Hickory, and was changed to Goldsboro on account of scarlet fever being in the city. Among the numbers on the program for the concert by the Hawthorne Club of Boston to night, are the foliowing: French Horn duets, Cornet solos. C., this week for Rev. R. D. Sherrill. He wjll preach there about ten days. Our Enterprising Citizens sho uld not forget the great loss that Hickory is suffering each day that we continue to be without a hotel. A large percent of the traveling people are cutting Hick ory out for this reason. Piano, violins, guitars, mando lins, banjos, comets. French horns, Swiss bells, organ chimes, xylophone, steel marimbaphone, ocarinas, and numerous smaller instruments will be used by the Hawthore Club in their concert • to-night—Thursday. Mrs. B. T. Rainey and daugh-i ters, Misses Josie and Bessie, left Tuesday for their home in i Caswell county, where they will spend the summer. Mr. W. O. Player tells us that he has on the road a car load of furniture and house-furnishings which will be here in a few days. He wishes all those who anything in his line to save their order for him, that he will be sure to please them. 1 i *" ■ - 4 The Performances of the Ly ceum Comedy Co., Has Been Well Received The three performances of t>e Lyceum Comedy Co., in the Academy of Music for the past ] three nights has been* well re ceived by the large crowd that has greeted them at each per- - formance. The comtany is a good one, and the plays well exe cuted. The specialties are of a higher and more expensive class than are generally seen with stock companies. The company will not play here to-night .They play at Newton on account of the en-j gagement of Hawthorne Musical Company. The Comedy Company will give three more performances in the Academy of Music this week. Friday night they will present, The Girl with the Auburn Hair," Saturday a matinee will be given at 3 o'clock p. m.
