IN EABLY FORTIES Washington, D. C., May 11.—A hap py Virginia bride at nineteen, mis tress of the White House at twenty-one and totally blind and an inmate of the Louise Home in this city at eighty seven. Such is the life story of Mrs. Letitia Tyler Semple, daughter of for mer President Tyler, who was eighty seven years old today. When it is remembered that Mrs. Semple was a little girl when Lafay ette made his last visit to America, and a young woman before the Semi nole Indians were finally pacified in Florida, it would seem that she almost belongs to another age. She saw the first telegraph wire in the United States stretched from Washington to Baltimore, and later was given a piece of the original Atlantic cable by S. F. B. Morse himself. She was present at the launching of the Allegheny, the first iron ship in the United States navy to be propelled by steam. She was acquainted with such notable fig ures in public life as Daniel Webstor, John C. Calhoun, Henry Clay, Wash ington Irving, Andrew Jackson, John Quincy Adams and numerous others. Mrs. Semple in her youth was her father's constant companion. She was a good musician and was the life and spirit of his household. At the age of nineteen she became the wife of Mr. Semple. When the death of William Henry Harrison made ' Tyler President he brought a large and interesting family to the White House. Mrs. Tyler was an invalid and could never discharge the duties of mistress of the Whi f e House. During the first few months cf Tyler's administration Mrs. Robert Tyler, wife of a son of the President, acted as his hostess, while the Presi dent's daughter, Letitia, remained at their Virginia home with her mother. Some months later Mrs. Tyler made the trip to Washington, accompanied by her daughter, now Mrs. Semple, but succumbed to her malady very shortly afterward and was buried from the White House, of which she had never been able to assume the duties of mis tress. After the death of her mother Mrs. Semple assumed the duties of mistress of the White House, which she discharged with grace and tact un til her father's second marriage, only a few months before his term of of fice expired. His second bride was Miss Julia Gardner of New York. Like most elderly people, Mrs. Sem ple lives in the past. Her last visit to the White House was during the ad ministration of President Pierce, whose family were intimate friends. Since that time, although invitations have come to her for every function given there and are still coming, she has paid no attention to them. She leads a quiet life in the Louise Home for the Aged, which is filled with Southern ladies of gentle birth and culture. The home is not a charitable institution, for each woman must pay for her board and room. The charge is modesty a% the institution was hand somely endowed by the founder, the late philanthropist, W. That's the best paint job I ever saw." The Question is "Was Dreicorn right in painting Devoe when he had agreec to paint lead-and-oil. That isn't quite all. Lead-and-oil is expected to last three years. Ii Dreicorn had used lead-and-oil there would have been another pob for hii or somebody-else three years ago. Was he right in losing that job foi himself or somebody else three years ago? The Institute took S2OO gallons De voe arid cost $1,000; the paint has won. six years, when Donohue says "it's th. best paint ojb I ever saw." All the b'.ood in your body passes '.hrough /our kidneys once every three minutes. fThe kidneys are your blood purifiers, they fil ter out the waste or impurities in the blood. If they are sick or out of order, they fail to do their work. Pains, aches and rheu matism come from ex cess of uric acid in the blood, due to neglected kidney trouble. Kidney trouble causes quick or unsteady heart beats, and makes one feel as though they had heart trouble, because the heart is over-working in pumping thick, kidney poisoned blood through veins and arteries. It used to be considered that only urinary troubles were to be traced to the kidneys, but now modern science proves that nearly all constitutional diseases have their begin ning in kidney trouble. If you are sick you can make no mistake by first doctoring your kidneys. The mild and the extraordinary effect of Dr. Kilmer's Swamp-Root, the great kidney remedy is soon realized.
