The Hickory Bantams Defeat the Salisbury Giants. There were many who thought that the Bantams had gone to Salisbury only to be defeated and I great Was their surprise when they learned that the Bantams had defeated the Giants to the tune 13 to 6. twirler with whom Salisbury started the game, was knocked out of the box in the second in ning. Kahrs then tried to stop the awful slugging of the Ban tams. -His efforts were all in vain and the slugging continued. Colee was invincible until the eighth inning, when m response to the cries from the grand stand to give Salisbury a chance; he began to toss the ball over the plate without any of his be wildering curves; and through pity allowed the Salisbury lads to run six men across the home plate. Manager Neal, -of the Salis bury team, kept the wires hot that night. He was determined to secure a twirler who could put a stop to the awful slugging of the Bantams. . His efforts were successful and Jtfellew, the Rock Hill, twirler, gave the nine little Bantams nine big goose eggs, while his team reached home six times. _ - Friday, Salisbury crossed bats with the Bantams on the Lenoir College grounds. This was the best game seen in Hickory this season. Colee allowed Salisbury only one hit during the game, and the Bantams found Turner for only six clean ones. The game was exciting from begin ning to end. Mayberry made a sensational catch of one of Clem ents long drives in the ninth in ning which kept two men from reaching home. The Bantams turned the tables on Salisbury, and the game resulted in a score of 3 to 0 in favor of Hickory. The fourth game of the series resulted in a tie 2to 2. Hickory did not score until the ninth in ning when Colee hit safely over second base and Jenkins pasted one that sent Colee across home, Jenkins resting en third. Miller seemed to have a grudge against Staples, Salisbury's short stop, for he sent the later a hot one which he was unable to handle until after Jenkins had crossed home. This tied the score and the game was called to allow Salisbury boys to catch the train. Morrow, Golee and Abernethy; were batteries for the Bantams; Beliu and Fletcher for Salisbury. Rev. Lunsford, of Asheville, was on the streets here Wednes day. : " Col. Geo. M. Yoder and wife spent Sunday in the city with relatives. Don't put off getting your present until they are all gone.
