Tuesday afternoon the arrival of the 5 o'clock train caused 1 quite a -sensation among the | spectators gathered at the depot | A huge jblong box was lifted ' from the baggage ci r and set I upon the trucks. The box was about six feet long and four wide, carefully finished and pre sided with glass doors at end | and front side. Within on pil i lows and cushions lav a lady | who seamed not at all disturbed by the gaze of the curious whom such an unwonted spectacle had gathered together. Inquiry re vealed .he fact that the lady was an invalid from the North and had come South for her health. She had adopted this unusual mode of traveling it is said on account of he belief that death would follow immediately if she came in contact with the ground. She came from the North in a Pullman and used the box only in transfers. Two men were in attendance and accompanied the invalid to her new home in. West Hickory. The lady's name is Mrs. William Tryon and her home at Fitch burg Mass. She and her hus band came to Salisbury about three wceksago. They are re ported very wealthy. Civic Club. We are again going to make a plea for a Civic Club. We need it. There are many things about town which should be attended j to; things which the town author- I ities can not manage alone. Any way women can make such things go better than men. Other towns have a Civic Club why not Hick ory? We know the women of Hickory are just as enterprising as the women of any other city. There is the depot, which needs attention, Have you ever been it it? Not in the memory of the oldest inhabitant has the floor been scrubbed. Its not a fit place for a dog let alone a man or woman. ' Lets have a Civic Club and; clean up the town. A Civic Club: in Hickory would mean, a clean ' depot, clean square, a cleaning ; up of Trade Avenue, Lets have a Civic Club. Gala Day.
