Libel Suit Against Editor. Snerriff D. M, Boyd arrived here yesterday with the papers in the suit of B. F, Aycock a gainst J. F. Click, Editor of the Times-Mercury. It is a civil iuit for damages and this being one of the cases where the law allows the party suing to have the defendant arrested, an order of arrest from the clerk of the Suprerior Court of Wayne county requiring the Sheriff to hold the Defendant in a bond of $5,000 was served on Mr. Click who pro mptly gave the bond, with quite a number prominent citizens as sureties. The bond requires that the Editor of the Mecury shall appear at the trial and that he shall "hold himself amenable to all the orders of the Court in this cafee. The Defendant will answer before or during, the November term of Wayne County Superior Court, which begins November 30th. This will simply be a written answer filed by his at torneys. The.case will will then stand for trial before a jury at the court following November term. The complaint charges that the Mercury published a state ment that Aycock was drunk in Hickory and had to be taken from the bank steps by his friends when he was attempting to make a Democratic speech. The amount of damages asked is five thousand dollars. Aycock's Counsel as appears by the com plaint are I. T. Dortch, Aycock and Daniel, W. S. O'B Robinson and Meredith Nicholson, all of the Wayne County bar. Judge Robinson is a Republican, Ex- Gov. Aycock and the other at torneys are Democrats. Mr Click has employed Huf ham and Whitener, A. A. Whitener and W. A. Self to represent his interests. Of these all except Whitener are Democrats. Click received letters today from two legal firms offering their services to him. This is a highly sensational case and its progress will be watched with much interest. Thpre are traces lu earlier times of enforced or voluntary contributions to ward the relief of sufferers by fire, but It is only about the beginning of the seventeenth century that we hear of proposals being made for a more sys tematic provision, and it was not till after the great fire in London in 1666 that these proposals took practical shape. This seems at first to have been in the form of underwriting by individuals or by clubs, and some at tempts were made to engage the cor poration of London in a scheme of fire Insurance, but In 1681 the first regular office for insuring against losses by fire was opened near the Royal ex change, and it was followed- shortly afterward by others. The Farmer's Wife Is very careful about her churn. She Bcald9 It thoroughly alter using, and gives It a sutf bath to sweeten it. She knows that if her churn is sour it wjll taint the butter that is made in it. The stomach is a churn. In the stomach and digestive and nutritive tracts are performed pro cesses which are almost exactly like the churning of then that if this stomach-churn is foul it makes foul all which is put into it? The evil of a foul stomach is not alone the bad taste in the mouth and the foul breath caused by it, but the corruption of the pure current of blood and the dissem ination of disease throughout the body.. Dr. Pierce'a Golden Medical Discovery makes the sour and foul stomach sweet. It does for the stomach what the washing and sun bath do for the churn—absolutely removes every tainting or corrupting ele ment. In this way it cures blotches, pimples, eruptions, scrofulous swellings, sores, or open eating ulcers and all I humors or diseases arising from bad blood.
