i JB JEWBy JST fin jmf MB Mr MBQ When shown positive and reliable proof that a certain remedy had cured numerous cases of female ills, wouldn't any sensible woman conclude that the same remedy would also benefit her if suffering with the same trouble ? Here are two letters which prove the efficiency of Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound. Red Banks, Miss. —"Words are inadequate to express what Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound has done for me. 1 suffered from a female disease and weakness which the doc tors said was caused by a fibroid tumor, and I commenced to think there was no help for me. Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound made me a well woman after all other means had failed. My friends are all asking what has helped me so much, and I gladly recommend Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Com pound."—Mrs. Willie Edwards. I Hampstead, Maryland.—"Before taking Ljdia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound I was weak and nervous, and could not be on my feet half a tlay without suffering. The doctors told me I never would be well without an operation, but Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound has done more for me than all the doctors, and I hope this valuable medicine may come into the hands of many more suffering women." Mrs. Joseph H. Dandy. I We will pay a handsome reward to any person who will prove to us that these letters are not genuine and truthful —or that either of these women were paid in any way for their testimonials, or that the letters are published without their permission, or that the original letter from each did not come to us entirely unsolicited. What more proof can any one ask ? For 30 years Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound has been the standard remedy for 7/jy female ills. No sick woman does justice to W( yo\ herself who will not try this famous medicine, if \r Made exclusively from roots and herbs, and I "7* t has thousands of cures to its credit. 11 / I Mrs. Pinkliam invites all sick women U\ /,i) to write her for advice. She has \\| guided thousands to health free of charge, tvJDIS# LU> Address Mrs. Pinkham* Lynn, Mass. The Local Newspaper in the Home. The local news paper should be in every home. No child will grow up ignorant who can be taught to appreciate the home paper. It is the stepping stone of intelligence in all those mat ters not to be learned in books. Give your children foreign papers which contains not one word about any person, place or thing which they ever saw or perhaps j ever heard of, and can you ex- j pect them to be interested. But let them have the home paper and read of persons whom thay meet and places with which the/ are familiar, and soon an inter est is awakened which increases with every arrival of the lqcal paper. Thus a habit of reading is formed, and these children will read the papers all their lives and become intelligent men and women, a credit to their an cestors, strong in their knowledge of the world as it is today and there is nothing so cheap as the local paper. If one will look around them among their acquaintances and the families of the neighborhood they will be surprised at the fact that all the bright young men and women have come from tne familiej that took the local home paper regularly. This is an un disputed fact, and we often won der why parents do not realize it and provide their children with reading that will interest them and thus they cultivate the habit of their reading and thinking for themselves. Many a man will subscribe for a paper published thousands of miles from his home—papers made up from the matter left over from dailies and in which he nor his family will never find an item in which they aie inter ested—just becau-ie it can be gotten for a few cents. He does this from the inherent inclination that all men have to take advan tage of a bargain; just as one would bid off a coffin plate with John Smith's name engraved on it because it is going cheap. Then the same man, when hit with remorse because he has made a fool of himself will stop the local taper to economize: thus making a fool of himself, the second time; but such is hu- / man nature— when we go to one extreme we immediately fly to the opposite.—Ex. The hostess gave an entertaining sketch of Begbie, the author of her special book "The Vigil," which is one of the favorites of this series. A fitting ending of the literary part of the evening was an interesting story read by the hcstess. After adjournment the guests were, invited into the cozy dining room, whose beau ties were enhanced by quantities of ferns and other pot plants and blooming narcissus. The table around which the members were seated, was beautiful with exquisite chins, cut glass and violets in great profusion. In this violet perfumed atmosphere the daintiest of luncheons—roast turkey, salad, baked brains, olives, beaten biscuits, cake, fruit salad and coffee was enjoy ed, The next regular meeting will be with Mrs. H. M. Doll, Feb. 3rd. Mrs. Lee Roy Whitener was hostess to the Thursday Study Club on the afternoon ot Jan. 28, when a large number was presenc. After adjourn ment, the hostess was assisted in serving dainty refrenshments by her nieces. Miss Margaret Bost and Miss Emma Pitts, of Catawba. The next meeting will be with Mrs. K. A.
