Jones of Biltmore is spending a few days in the city with relatives. Miss Delia Bost spent Sunday in Lenoir with her sister Mrs. W. H. Whitener. C. V Henkel and D. J. Craig, of Statesville, were in the city on business Monday. Rev. W. M, Bagby spent Tues day night in the city with his son Chas. Bagby Atty. Mrs. C. L. Whitener and little son, Arthur, spent Sunday in Lenoir, with relatives. - K. C. Menzies is greatly im proving his home on 13th Aye., by adding another story. We were glad to see Mrs. Sloop out at church Sunday after an illners of a few weeks. Mrs. W. T. Newland of Lenoir was here Tuesday night on her way home from Baltimore. Rev. J. H. He and Prof. Aull have the contract to build a Graded school building at Ninety Six, S. C. The Hickory Gnded school won in a match game of ball with Newton Giaded school played in Hickory Saturday. The score ended 7 to 4. Miss Ethel Whitener who has been very sick at her uncle's Mr Bob Whitener, has recovered so as to be able to return to her home in the country. L. P. Bost, who has been for sometime in Biltmore working for the United States Furniture - Co.. is spending a few days at home with her mother. Pleas ant for the past few years and is well, equipped with experience in his work. Miss Pearl Moretz entertained | about forty of her young friends ! Friday night, at her home on 9th Ave. They were all entertained with catch v games for prizes Miss Mabel Cooper won Ist prize and Billy McC*mb won the booby prize. It was a plesent occasion for all who were so fortunate as to be at Miss Pearls party. The following members were iniciated into the order of W. O. The contest for the $25.00 cash prize offered by the Hickory Hackney Horse Breeders Asso ciation, will be held at Aiken's stable, Hickory, N. C. on Satur day, Aug. 7th 1909, at one p. m. Clay, after a little more than a week's illness from penmonia, passed from earth into the eter nal world, on the morning of the 26 of March. The funeral service was held by her pastor in Holy Trinity-Lutheran Church' of | which she was a devoted member. She was a good christian woman, highly esteemed by all who knew her; and while we grately de plore her death, we sorrow not ' as those who have no hope; but fondly trust she has entered into that rest which remaineth for > the peese of God. She was in 1 J her 58th year, and was the first 1 to die out of a family of eleven children, five sons and six daugh ■ ters. Her husband, two t ters, and her aged mother sur i vive her.
