I 1 After using one of your rollers for three years, we concluded to buy another one for chain gang No. 2. Our first one proved so satisfactory that we bought the second one, feeling that we could not get equal service out of any other roller. Price and convenience of roller considered, we think it the best on the market. P. A. HARTMAN, County Com. and Supt. of Roads Salisbury, N. C , Dec. 24, 1908. The Case road roller has given satisfaction so far as a road builder. It is a good steamer, burns either wood or coal, and has large tank for water. We have not paid out anything for repairs. It is as good a machine as can be bought for the same money. F. D. STEWART, Hillsboro, N. C., Sept. 5, 1908. For Information write or see W. A. KERR / At Kerr Bros. Livery Stable. Phone 246. C, P Safety in Investments. The advantage that comes from a feeling of safety in in vestments is one that should not be overlooked by those who have surplus savings, or idle funds to invest. It is not always easy to decide the best and safest way to place idle funds, so as to yield the greatest returns. In buying stock, unless ycu know personally the men who are to manage the affairs of the Company, and you know them to be successful business men, and men of good morals, you always feel that there is something about this kind of investment that is not perfectly safe. It is for this reason that first mortgage real estate loans ap peal so strongly to the conserva tive investor. If you have your funds loaned on first mortgage real estate at not more than 50 per cent of the value of the property, you have the safest in vestment known today. The best way to place your funds in this way, is to have some reput able Loan Company place them for you, the Loan Company will guarantee the loan in every res pect and collect the interest for you. By having the Loan Com pany act as your agent you are relieved of the trouble of having the title looked up, collecting the interest and looking after the insurance etc. Then too the Company cives you their guaran tee which holds the Company lending your fu.ids responsible in every respect, therefore vou are taking no risk at all. You simpiv place your money for a stated time and receive 6 per cant per annum, the interest generally being paid semi-an nually. Sees Mother Grow Young. 4 'lt would be hard to overstate the wonderful change in my mother since she began to use Electric Bitters," writes Mrs. W. L. Gilpatrick of Dan forth, Me. "Although past 70 she seems really to be growing young again. She suffered untold misery from dyspepsia for 20 years. At last she could neither eat, drink nor sleep. Doctors gave her up and all remedies failed till Electric Bitters worked such wonders for her health." They in vigorate all vital organs, cure Liver and Kidney troubles, induce sleep, impart strengtlr and appetite. Only 50c at C. M. Shuford, W. Sj Martin and W. L. Boatright. In youth or age, languor, backache, urinary irregularity, dizzi ness and nervousness make life a bur den. • There is one remedy that acts di rectly on the kidueys and cures these troubles, Doan's Kidney Pills owe their world-wide fame to the fact that they cure sick kidneys and cure them permanently. Follow the example cf this Hickory citizen and you will be convinced that this is so. H. D. Fry, Twenty-first St., Hick ory, N. C M says: "One box of Doans Kidney Pills, procured at Moser & Lutz's drug store, cured me of a severe attack 'of backache and I am pleaded to say that I have not felt a return of the trouble since.
