TRUTHFUL REPORTS.
Hickory Reads Them With
Uncommon Interest.
A Hickory citizen tells his experi
ence in the following statement. No
better evidence tnan this can be had.
The truthful reports of friends and
neighbors is the best proof in the
world. Read and be convinced.
Mrs. A. Wezen, 1443 Ninth Ave.,
Hickory, N. Car., says: "Doan's
Kidney Pills proved beneficial to me
and Ido not hesitate to recommend
them. My kidneys were out of order,
and I suffered from backache. I
finally used Doan's Kidney Pills pro
cured at Moser& I.utz Drug Store and
they made me strong and well. This
remedy gives quick relief."
The above statement must carry
cenviction to the mind of every read
er. o n't simply ask for a kidney
remedy —ask distinctly for Doan's
Kidney Pills, the same that Mrs. We
zen had —the remedy backed by home
testimony. 50c all stores. Foster-Mil

We are pleased to know that
at the commencement just held
at Bingham School, near Mebane,
N. C., Mr. 0. Glenn Henkel of
Hickory was highly honored.
Mr. Henkel was awarded a certi
ficate in Bible, Penmanship,
Bookkeeping and Mathematics.
His deportment for the entire
year was highly distinguished.
This grade on deportment is ex
ceedingly difficult to receive at
Bingham as the military discip
line there, while kind, is very
strict. Mr. Henkel was also
awarded a diploma of graduation
in the Scientific Course and stood
so well with Col. Gray and the
school authorities that he has
)een invited to return and assist
in the school work, in physica
culture.
Guard Your Children
Against Bowel Trouble
Many children at an early age
become constipated, and frequently
serious consequences result. Not
being able to realize his own con
dition, a child's bowels should be
constantly watched, and a gentle
laxative given when necessary.
Dr. Miles' Laxative Tablets are
especially well adapted to women
and children. The Sisters of
Christian Charity, 53* Charles St.,
Luzerne, Pa., who attend many
cases of sickness say of them:
"Some time ago we began using Dr.
Miles' Laxative Tablets and find that
we like them very much. Their action
is excellent and we are grateful for
having been made acquainted with
them. We have had good results in
every case and the Sisters are very
much pleased."
The form and flavor of any medi
cine is very important, no matter
who is to take it. The taste and
appearance are especially important
when children are concerned. All
parents know how hard it is to give
the average child "medicine," even
though the taste is partially dis
guised. In using Dr. Miles' Lax
ative Tablets, however, this diffi
culty is overcome. The shape of
the tablets, their appearance and
candy-like taste at once appeal to
any child, with the result that they
are taken without objection.
The rich chocolate flavor and
absence of other taste, make Dr.
Miles' Laxative Tablets the ideal
remedy for children.
If the first box fails to benefit,

only 25 cents. Never sold in bulk.

An Endless Chain
of Sickness.
There are upwards of one million deaths
each year in the United States. In 99%
of cases the people who die are less than
sixty-live years old. The evils that are
due to disease can l>e escaped lust in pro
portion as the conditions and habits that
bring on disease become more widely
understood.
Then too a chronic disease which may
baffle the skill of the general practitioner
may yet be permanently cured by the
Physician who has made one line of dis
ease a specialty.
It would be just as absurd for the Pro
fessor in a medical college presuming to
lecture on all subjects as for the one Phy
sician to presume to understand the nat
ure. and cure of every disease.
That is why Dr. 11. V. Pierce establishes
the Invalids' Hotel and Surgical Institutt
many years ago—with a full staff of Phy
sicians and Surgeons—who though edu
cated to practice in all departments ot
medicine are iiere assigned to a specia
department only—to which each special
ist devotes his entire time, study anc
attention.
The sick who have been treated at Dr.
Pierce's Invalids' Hotel, Buffalo, N. Y.,
have much to say in regard to this won
derfully equipped Sanitarium, where all
electrical apparatus, as well as electric
water baths, Turkish baths, static elec
tric machines, high-frequency current,
and other most modern and up-to-date
apparatus are used for the cure of chronic
diseases. The treatment of chronic dis
eases that are peculiar to women have foi
many years been a factor in the cure,
affected at the Invalids' Hotel and Sur
gical Institute.
The physicians and surgeons employee
are among the most experienced ana skill
ful in the country, men who have made
these diseases their life study, and whose
highest ambition is to excel in theii
treatment.
How well they have succeeded may be
judged from the fact that their practice
embraces cases from every State and Ter
ritory of the Union as well as from foreign ,
lands. Many thousands are annually
treated, either through correspondence 1
or at Dr. Pierce's Institution. It is an
old adage that, "Experience makes per
fect," and the skilled specialists in this
lield of practice cure thousands of case>
which have been abandoned as incurabl;
by general practitioners.
One of the most wonderful electric;
appliances is the X-ray used at the Insti
tute which may be used both in the treat
ment of various diseases and in the diap
nosis of many obscure conditions. Wit;
its aid the interior of the human body i
no longer the sealed book it has been here
tofore. Abnormal states of the bones
gall stones, stone in the bladder or in th«
kidneys, are shown plainly by what an
known as X-ray photographs. Interna,
tumors, and the enlargement of the deep
seated organs,-are also discovered by thl>
means and in the diagnosis of tuberculosis
of the lungs this agent has proven a most
valuable aid. When applied to some ol
the less fatal chronic ailments of germ
origin it has proven very effective as a
curative agent.
Another interesting proceeding is the
violet-ray treatment produced by concen
trating tne violet or chemical rays from
an arc light with a specially prepared
carbon upon any portion of the body that
may he the seat of pain. Sufferers from
neuralgia, sciatica, rheumatism, strains,
sprains, also from those obscure exhaust
ing pains (the origin of which cannot at
times be accurately determined) frequent
ly find immediate relief from a single
treatment and usually with a little per
sistence in the use of this aid, comfortable
health or perfect recovery s obtained.
The incandescent light b&'h, consisting
of a cabinet in which th* patient is
bathed in the combined ray; of many
electric light globes, has produced really
wonderful results in diabetes, sciatica,
rheumatism, obesity, anaemia, and some
forms of kidney and heart trouble. It
has also proven valuable in chronic bron
chitis. bronchial asthma and various skin''
diseases. As a general hygienic measure
its efficiency can scarcely be over-esti
mated.
Hundreds are brought to this Institu
tion from far distant states and they go
home in a few weeks well and strong.
Quite as marvelous are the thousands of
cures annually accomplished through cor
espondence, while the patient remains
quietly at home. Others consult in per
son, and after being examined are pro
vided with especially prepared medicines
and return home to carry out the treat
ment.
Everyone who consults the specialists,
whether by letter or in person receives the
most careful and considerate attention.
Great care is exercised not to over en
courage those who consult the specialists
of this institution that no false hopes
may be raised.
Consultation by letter or in person is
absolutely free—no charge whatever—so
that the public when afflicted are invited
to write Dr. Pierce at the Invalids' Hota
and Surgical Institute, P-uffalo, N. Y.
