A correspondent to the North Wilkesboro Hustler, from Hid denite, Alexander county, says it is a fact that the title to the tracts of land purchased by a company in 1880, and on which the Drecious stone, Hiddenite was thought to be in large quan tites, are tied up in litigation, and that as soon as this can be adjusted work will be resumed in the mine. Councfll, of this city, has the natural in stincts of a son of the soil. He owns a farm a mile and a half from Salisbury on which, on 40 acres he raised 700 bushels of wheat, and on 12 acres he raised 400 bushels of oats. Mr. Frank Allen gave the Democrat a lot of the finest peaches it ever saw. Mr. Allen is not only the dean of the Hick ory merchants but he is a great farmer and orchard man. He has carefully selected the fruit in | his orchard, so that he has it in I succession; something juicy com- 1 ing in all through the summer. | One Killed in Greensboro Wreck. Engineer Thomas E. Beach, of Alexandrir, was fatally injured and died later at a hospital, after the wreck of his train No. 36 at Greensboro, Satur day morning. A switch had been left open for a freight to get into the yards. At the same time, the switch man says, the red signals had been given to Beach, who disregarded. He died before he could testify in the matter. About 50 people were injured more or less seriously, and all the physicians in Greensboro hastened to their aid. Again the steel coaches proved their valae as protectors of human life. Mr. A. K.
