BaßirtgfMer AbsoluieiyPiire The Woman Makes the Home She makes it best who, looking after the culinary department, turns her back resolute ly upon unhealthful, or even suspicious, food accessories. She is economical; she knows that true economy does not consist in the use of inferior meat, flour, or baking powder. Democrats Will Fight All Taft's Appointments. barker Anderson's Washington Letter in Greensboro News. Speaking of the conference Which was held here yesrerday when it was decided to oppose the confirmation of all nomina tions for federal positions sent to the Senate by President Taft after Congress convenes Monday next, Representative Webb said lie heartily approved of the ac tion said to have been taken at the conference of Democratic senators, "I am heartily in favor of hold ing up the confirmation of all nominations for federal jobs un til after March 4." said Mr. Webb tonight. "President Taft has just put some 35,000 postmasters under the protecting hand of the dril service, lam in favor of keeping every position possible for the Democrats who have served the party," By using obstructive tactics the Democrats can easily prevent action in the Senate until the extra session of Congress meets when the Democrats will be in control of the upper branch of Congress. If the condition of the rail road business is a barometer of the prosperity of any section piedmont North Carolina is undergoing a great expansion, for officials of the Southern Rail way announce that their line has hen led more freight from October 10 to November 10 than in any similar period in the history of the road. The busi ness has been especially heavy over the branch lines which have poured a great flood of traffic on to the main line. Every engine aed every available car on the road has been in service and then the the railroad's facilities were not adequate. Every man in the service, from the general su perintendent down to the humb lest employe, has been working night and day trying to move the vast volume of freight, and the railroads' only fear is that they may not be able to handle the tremendous business. The passen ~er business has not been above normal and in eastern Car olina, in fact, it has fallen a little behiod. Presbyterian Church Notes The pastor will preach at both ser vices next Sunday.
