Brown from Dur ham is here at present making ready to have a dwelling house built on sojaie vacant lots he owns in Longview. He intends to move here when his house is completed. Mr. Brown was overseer of spinning at the Ivey mill for several years, and his friends here are glad to know that he has decided to move back again. D. E. Workman and family moved from here to Lawndale one day last week, and Cr. L. Lewis and family from Marion are going to move into tlie house vacated by Mr. Workman. L. P. Ken worthy is arranging to have a nice dwelling house built on a vacant lot that he owns in West Hick ory. IF. A. Shook has the contract to do the work. There was an Ice Cream supper at the home of Mr. A. J. Drum's Satur day evening. There was a large crowd present. D. R. Leonard who has been hen 1 several weeks visiting his parent? went back to AltaVista, Va. Sunday. Dr. J. J. Hicks is having a nice cottage house built on a vacant lot near his residence. The Ivey mill base ball team and the Lumber Co. team played a game here Saturday evening. The score was 7 and*3 in favor of the Ivey boys. Miss Barbara Hahn spent last week with her mother and brother at Oyama. Mexican Joe's famous show is gointr to exhibit in West Hickory every night this week. Ashley Home as chair man and Mr. J. A. Turner, of Louisburg, as secretary. The ioard decided to receive proposals t'rom towns in the stace endeav oring to secure the location of the nome until July I, a meeting, to .be called thereafter to consider the proposals reeeived and locate the home. Several towns have already filed proposals. One offers $3,000 and the choice of two sites; another $2 500 and site; still another, a nine-room house and 12 acres of iand. There is a state appropri ation of SIO,OOO for buildings and $5,000 annually for maintenance. What°v~r is given by the commu nity that secures the h >me will be put into the permanent plant. Directors other than officers chosen are: Messrs. J. A. R-yan, Newbern; Haywood Park , \she ville; W. H. Watkins, Hamsjur, W. H. White, Oxford; and Or. H T. Bahnson, Winston-Salem. While Being Bathed Hot Water is Spilled on Them. Salisbury, May 24,—Two child ren of Secretary B. F. Stevenson, of the Spencer Y. M. C. A., aged three and one year, respectively, were badly scalded at their home here late this afternoon.
