As Southern passenger train No. 36 was nearing the city on last Sunday evening it was dis covered that one of the day coacnes was on fire. It seems to be a settled fact, that Congressman Webb will hold a primary for Hickory post master. It seems to us that after the primary at Mt. Holly, Mr. Webb would be satisfied, yet it seems there will have to be a primary or something else if we get a postmaster for Hick ory. It has taken him longer to appoint the postmarters in this district than it did wilson to fill the cabinet. No one can see the need of a pri mary, but if Mr. Webb is deter mined to have it why is it he does not have it and make the appointment. Married in Chester. Mr. Wade V. Bowman, of this city, was married to Miss Eliza beth Dillingham, of Nashville, Tenn., at the residence of Mrs. S. J, Ferguson in Chester; S. C., on June 4th, Rev. J. C. Roper, pastor of the Methodist church, of Chester, officiating. Miss Dillingham is well known and popular in Chester, where she has often visited. Mr. Bow man is a son of Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Bowman, of this city, and is a well-known mail clerk on the Carolina & Northwestern rail road. After a short visit to Mr. Bowman's parents, they will make their home in Chester. Governor Craig Will Convene Leg- islature. Asheville, June 9.—ln response to a question from a Citizen rep resentative tonight Governor Craig, who arrived here this afternoon for a month's rest, de clared that a SDecial session of the legislature will be called to consider the freight question as it affects this state. He said: "There will be a special session of the legislature. That haf been contemplated ever since the last session of the general assem bly, and I will certainly take anv proper action that may be neces sary to secure for North Caro lina fair treatment by the rail roads. The people are deter mined that they will no longer suffer the injustice to which they have been subjected for years in the matter of freight rates, and I will do all in my power to aid them in this contest. With fair treatment the cities and towns of Njrth Carolina woulr fcrow and prosper, and we ai e going to have that treatment be fjre long.*' Mrs. Norris Hurt in Wreck. -Mrs. J. F. Norris is suffering i tense pain from injuries re ceived in the wreck of the C. & M. W. train near Maiden laet Saturday.
