The new owners took charge of the gara Saturday morning. Marshal w. Thacker will be manager of the latest link in the Consumers' chain, while David Stanton will be his assistant. A thorough 24-hour service is to be given the mo torists of city and section, it was announced. Extensive alterations and im provements of the garage build ing are contemplated for the im mediate future. Upwards of $25,000 worth of tires of stand ard make and accessories will be shipped here immediately, giving the local store one of the largest and most complete stocks to be found anywhere in the section. All former customers of the Motor Service company will be taken care of by the new concern and local stockholders in the Consumers' company will have their every want filled. Service on these machines will be given by the mechanical force of the new concern which will specialize on day and night ser vice of every description to the motorists of city and section. Kirkman, former High Pointer, who lost his life while at temp ting to save Anne E. Berkheimer from drowning at Wrightsville Geach on July 24, HPtB? was received in High Point Friday night by Mrs. N. Young Kirkman lost his life when he dashed into the water in an effort to save Miss Gerk heimer, who had cried for help. Both were drowned. Mr. Kirk man served overseas as an offi cer in the American army. He was known by a large number of friends in High Point. i HIGH POINT TO HAVE A COUNTRY CLUB Plans for the erection and equipment of a modern club house were submitted at a meet ing of the board of directors of the' Old Hickory club held on Thursday. Submission of the plans was made by the building committee recently appointed by High Point's newest organiza tion. The plans call for an eleven room log club house, equipped with dance halls and all modern conviences. Announcement was made that contract for the structure will be awarded during the next few days. The building will be equip ped with water and electric light systems and will be established on the property recently pur chased near Mackay's lodge, sev eral miles from the city. Construction work on a dam which will cover approximately 25 acres, is expected to begin soon, it was announced by offi cials of the clufx High Point business and pro fessional men are stockholders in te corporation, which was recently chartered by the secre tary of state. Sidna Allen and His Fellow Convicts Aid Relief Work Danville, Va., Jan. 13. Sidna Allen, famous about eight years ago for his participation in the Hillsville tragedy, and who now is serving a term of 30 years in thet state penitentiary, broke intbthe limelight again last week when he sent for Major James B.
