Gentlemen: Some time ago I was attack ed with a serious spell of Ty phoid fever, which left me in a very weak condition and effect ed my limbs. We decided it had resulted in white swelling. Every remedy we could think of was used, but to no effect. My suffering was great and I had to go on crutches. At last we were induced to try Mrs. Joe Person's Remedy, after suf fering for two years, and the result was marvelous. After taking eight bottles I was en tirely cured, nd have never had a symptom of trouble since. My faith in Mrs. Joe Person's Remedy is great and I would advise all sufferers to give it a trial and be convinced as I have. (Signed)) MRS. R. W. The trovernor summed up the by working .people (throughout the , Greenlander's unique position which BE FORE THE CLERK world as a result of the war, the most important thing being that it doe:i make a difference to working men what government is over them. Before the present war pacificism had made greater headway among laboring people than any other class of people, workmen in Belgium, Franco, England and Sweden having gone so far as to declare that it could make no difference to them wheth er they were under the rule of their individual governments or some other power. The treatment accorded the French and Belgians, however, has aroused workingmen in Europe to the fact that it does make a difference, a vital difference, and this class of citizens has changed attiudo. A country should desire peace more than any other thing, but peace is worse than war if it has to be purchased at the price of slavery. This change in sentiment was very much desired by the war lords of Eu rope, because it was the cause of providing them with more cannon fod der. FUTURE AS RESORT There are several hundred persons in the United States miany of them known to fame who would be glad to spend their winters in Hickory if on ly the facilities were provided. The first thing Hickory must do to at tract this class of people is to estab lish a country club and build a golf course, This done, we could await results Since the population of the Unit ed States is turning more and more to outdoor life, the people of the east and north are seeking out places in the south which provide the facilities for hunjting, fishing and playing. Hickory is in position to furnish simple recreation ht no eports. The opportunity is so inviting, the cost of a simple club house and golf course so trival and the benefits to Hickory business men would be so prae. tical, that we cannot afford to pass up a proposition of this kind. There is no good reason why Hickory should not entertain several thousand visitors a season, and it takes no Im agination to get a conception of what that would mean to the trade inter-' csts of tho town end county. j ho remarked may have something to do with his detachment from the war. 'The Greenlander," he said, "has these advantages: "He has no army to support. '"He has no navy to worry about. '"There are no policemen in Green land. "He has no taxes to pay. "There are no movie shows or theatres. "All doctor bills are paid by the Danish governments 'Thero," added the governor, "you have a condition unique among the peoples of the world. And it must not bo forgotten that the standard of civilization among these Arctic Highlanders is being raised, slowly by necessity, I am also pleased to report that his numbers are increas ing.
