ASSOCIATED PRESS REPORTS TUESDAY, MARH 3. 1917 THE ELECTION Mayor S. L. Whitener has made a good, working mayor and he has ev ery reason to be proud of his record. He simply did things, and the great majority of things were worth while. He is a littlo too outspoken for a suc cessful politician, but everybody can know at any time where he stands. He made a good mayor. Mr. M. II. Yount, who succeeds him, cannot do better than give hi support to the policies inaugurateu under the former board and we are sure Mr. Yount, who is a man of tact and discernment, will render the cu fine service. With the present complexion ot the board of aldermen the city has no cause to worry. All the mem bers are first class men, bent on help ing their town, and we shall continue to look for a broad policy of De velopment. Mr. A. P. Whitener has indicated as much and there is no doubt that Mr. F. A. Abernethy will make a valuable member. a president in the history of the re public. When historians read this document, setting forth the wrongs .suffered by the United States, they jnust place responsibility for the vvM.i. .m the little liToup of Prus- sians who, with a people in pract.- i:ul bondage, iorccd a terriDie war ,on the world.
